In 1948, Milton Brunson organized a community choir at McKinley High School in Chicago, IL. He named the *group *“The Thompson Community Singers†in honor of his Pastor, Rev. Eugene Thompson of St. Stephen’s AME Church. Throughout the 60’s and 70’s, the choir released multiple hit records, but in the early-80s’ a young, Darius Brooks and Percy Bady came on the scene and added a contemporary flare to their traditional sound and for nearly two decades, the skilled musicians and writers sang, composed and directed several of the choir’s 1 hits.
In 1998, celebrating their 50th Anniversary, the *group was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, an honor that their acclaimed leader, Rev. Milton Brunson, fell just a year shy of enjoying with them. He passed away the previous year, on April 1, 1997.
The *group was disassembled in 2000, but in 2003, Darius Brooks envisioned the *group reassembling for a final collaboration. The original lead vocalists and musicians that made up the “Choir’s Choir†affectionately known to most as just “The Tommies,†are BACK! Many heavy-hitters, including Tina Watson, Beatrice Gardner, LeAnne Faine, Kim McFarland, Tyrone Block, Denise Battle, Kevin Brunson, Richard Gibbs, Charles “Al†Willis and many more are reunited as, “Darius Brooks & The Tommies Reunion.â€
Currently, on their EXPERIENCE Tour, “Darius Brooks & The Tommies Reunion†is taking the world by storm. Their two-part release, Side A (Available Now) and Side B which features new music (To be released January 2008), is a remarkable souvenir of their legendary existence and their extraordinary contribution to today’s gospel music.
