Sisa

Like a Sex Panther. Arrrrrr!

About Me

Sisa was formed in 2005 and essentially consists of Marisa Giannasi (vocals) Oli Atack (bass) Paul Docherty (guitar) and Ross Whyte (Drums). Together they have been producing their own brand of Retro Electro pop The band origianally got together from a mutual love of shake your booty tunes, leather kilts, chicken and the muppets. Starting life with acoustic based roots they are now writing full electronica based tracks and accumulating like minded musicians. Marisa likes to add a bit of girlie chic to live gigs while Oli, Ross and Paul bring, well how do I put it, a blend of pure nonsense and total genius to the set.

Well Sisa are ploughing the same musical field as Annie Lennox and Alison Goldfrapp.Opening track Bleed's aural assault harks back to the early simple synth melodies of Depeche Mode or Erasure. But while that made those bands sound souless, Sisa have opted to include a funky bass.Consume, this time with Marisa on co-credit, is almost Prince-like and So High So Low is almost Portishead in its rawnessRICK FULTON 28/04/04 DAILY RECORDSisa were the next band on and added a different quality to the night with a backing track and some slap bass runs adding a more danceable style to the previous acts. The combination of programmed beats and live percussions was energetic and the crowd that had gathered in front of the stage clearly seemed to be enjoying themselves.Lead singer Marisa Giannasi holds a few vocal styles with one track featuring some cold electro sneer, along the lines of Moloko, to another track, which was warm and open. As the songs changed, the vocals moved accordingly and even the guitar followed, with some Arabic leads and fills coming in for one song. With a cover of Fiona Apples "Fast As You Can" rushing by at breakneck speed and doing justice to both the original and the band, they brought the show to a close and the dancing and singing crowd enjoyed their evening out.ANDY REILLY 14/03/06 THE MAG
