About Me

“Starting off powerfully with a tale of murder and violence, ‘Mark of Cain’, Steve Obern’s menacing growl contrasted with Michelle Davidson’s sweet but powerful voice – think Nick Cave’s duet with Kylie Minogue ‘Where the Wild Roses Grow’, only with better voices and more sinister – before a climax which saw the eight piece band combine in a relentless driving sound that suited the song’s brutal theme.” Editor – Inverness CourierFormed in Inverness during 2004 Lowtide Revelry have grown into a sophisticated folk-influenced band with haunting lyrics and mass band melodies.Lowtide Revelry have just released their self-titled debut album which is available to download at www.scotloads.co.uk and is described as “a stunning debut from a local line-up which has come a long way in a short time… a listen to this album is an intense, unsettling experience that takes you to darker places than you ever dreamed existed.”The album Launch at the Ironworks saw Lowtide Revelry perform with Inverness’ award-winning Gaelic choir. This performance was met with such critical acclaim that the band and choir have been invited to perform together on the main stage at the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival this summer.Lead Singer Steve Obern started out in the band as a guitar player but his natural vocal talents and song writing ability brought him to front the band and bring Lowtide Revelry forward to become one of the most popular bands in the Highlands. Brothers Ali Brown - bass guitar and Dougie Brown - drums have been in the band since the early days along with Ben Hesling -guitar. The original sound was punk influenced but being from the Highlands it wasn’t long before they began to feel the influence of the folk music scene. They were joined by Colin Cummings - guitar, Claire Campbell – piano/fiddle, Michelle Davidson - vocals and Sara Bills – trumpet/glockenspiel.Previous highlights for the band include opening the main stage at Loopallu 2007, the Seedlings Stage at Belladrum 2007 and supporting the Stranglers at the Ironworks. Upcoming gigs include performances at Stereo and Cabaret Voltaire in June with various festival appearances throughout the summer.2008 kicks of on Mayday with our first gig of the year, then plans are afoot to be back in the festivals and giging down the road in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
