CD REVIEW BY CHRIS PROPFE: DANNY FAST FINGERS - SNAKE HEAD RED, JANUARY 7, 2008 - 10:36 PM EST:
Artist: Danny Fast Fingers
Album: Snake Head Red
Best Songs: Snake Head, Guadalajara, Love Me Strange
CD Review: When I saw the red cobra on the front of the brand new Danny Fast Fingers CD that arrived today, I couldn't wait to pop it into my player. What greeted my ears was a very unique blend of quirky tunes, humorous lyrics, simple melodies, and funny funk that worked.
There was a groove in such tunes as "Love Me Strange" and "Code Redd". A nod to Terrapin Station era Grateful Dead in "Snake Head". And a Minutemen vocal approach that was untrained and shakey, but worked for the garage rock arrangements.
Danny Fast Fingers plays a wide variety of instruments including synthesizers, pedal steel guitar, and harmonica. I would assume that this is where his name came from because I didn't hear any lightning-fast riffs coming from my speakers. He definitely treats the listener to an instrumental buffet though.
Rounding out the band is Debra Parr on bass and Spyder The Drummer on, you guessed it, drums!
If you're looking for 12 fun songs to get you through a stressful day, you should give this one a listen.

KOOP 91.7 FM, CHARLIE MARTIN, JANUARY 21, 2007:
CHARLIE'S FAVORITE AUSTIN-RELATED ALBUMS OF 2006 – AROUND THE TOWN SOUNDS
DANNY FAST FINGERS / iDanny / PUNK, GARAGE
This is hard to classify, but with its innocent jabs of organ cutting clean through, this '60s-style unadorned pop rock - somewhat reminiscent of '60s garage music - is a contemporary reflection of those brief, shining moments in the sun for bands like ? & the Mysterians ("96 Tears") and John Fred & His Playboy Band ("Judy in Disguise").
KOOP 91.7 FM, CHARLIE MARTIN, JANUARY 11, 2007:
DANNY FAST FINGERS / "Blessed and Cursed"/ iDanny
Raised on Long Island, Danny is a 2006 transplant to Austin. Shortly before moving here he recorded this project in Austin (completed in August). It features his one-man-bandmanship (vocals, harmonica, guitar, Hammond organ) backed by a rhythm section borrowed from Dale Watson's band on most cuts. The simple, rhythmic organ riffs cut right through with an innocence and sound reminiscent of the mid-60s.

What do I like? What makes me happy? My family and friends. Seeing love in their eyes. Making them smile! My cats and dog! Making people happy even if they don't know I had anything to do with it. Being serenaded. Hearing wind chimes. The smell of autumn in the air... that hint of dried leaves. Listening to birds sing. Floating in my pool and snoozing in the sun. Accomplishing something that I wasn't sure I could do. The smell of freshly laundered towels. A clean house; a not-too-clean house. The feel of air caressing my skin when it blows through a window. Watching something that I planted grow.... seeing the flowers I planted when they bloom. Rainbows and clouds. Smelling leather. Baking and cooking - that smell of cinnamon. Sparkly things. Cobalt blue and indigo. Jeans. After-Five Dresses. Art... looking and collecting. Stained glass. Chiming clocks. Baby animals. Sky diving although I've only done it once. Just a few things!
Oh, yeah, in the daylight hours, I'm a conference manager for a national professional association based in Austin, Texas. But, that's fairly boring conversation unless you're interested in hotels, convention centers, airports and pharmaceutical companies.
NEWS FROM SPRING! (updated 9 April 2007)
After beginning to learn to play bass, I started writing song lyrics. To my astonishment and pleasure, I recently was notified that my song, Missing You Already, was selected as a "Runner Up" in the January 2007 round of the Song of the Year song and lyric competition. If you click here, it will take you to the awards page.
