..-"In the last few years, THE SCARRED has made a name for themselves as one of the hardest working bands in the underground punk scene today. Their blitzkrieg, energetic live show has made it's way across the country over twenty times since the band formed in 2003. At it's inception, The Scarred's first demos made waves in DIY zines across the country. This was quickly followed by touring in the old burnt out van, playing everywhere from garages, basements, bars, even an abandoned trailer, and an elevator lobby - to some of the best stages in the most rockin' clubs in America.
They quickly gained a reputation across the US as being one of the few bands who can just be "One of the gang" - hanging out with local bands and local kids across the country, getting to know them, and also a good reputation for promoters for putting on a great show on a stage of any size, from the smallest to the largest.
That's why The Scarred has toured the United States so many times, because they've developed real relationships with their fans. After self-releasing their first 10-song full length in 2004, which quickly went out of print, in 2005 they released a split 7" with New Jersey's "Void Control" bringing the sound of suburban angst and alienation from coast to coast. In late 2005, the Scarred was picked up by Punk Core Records of New York, and released their second full-length album, "No Solution" in 2006, which quickly kicked it's way in to the heart of the "old guard" and the new punk scene. As one reviewer put it, "Punk is not dead, and the Scarred proves so!"
After touring aggressively to support "No Solution," including a sold out summer tour with former label-mates Cheap Sex , The Scarred headed back home in late to prepare for the onslaught of 2007. Early in that year, Isha and Justin had a baby, and in the preparation for the spring and summer tours, Justin was involved in an accident that broke his leg and crippled his ankle, forcing him off his feet for nearly the rest of the year. 2008 Saw the return of Isha Rose to the drums, and now The Scarred will do what it always has, work hard, look ahead, ROCK hard, and kick some serious ass in the process!"
UNDER THE VOLCANO ..91 - Straight out of Southern California comes The Scarred, who are more than a little influenced from their West coast ancestors such as The Adolescents and Dead Kennedys, as well as Agent Orange. The Scarred sound and look like they couldve been walking the streets of Cali some 25 years ago, and I bet theyd be a lot happier if that were the case. No Solution displays all the traits of what makes a Punk record-nothing flashy, perhaps bigger on energy than on talent, and yet days later I cant still get half the songs out of my head. Im even catching myself singing these songs when walking my dog! - McClernon
READ MAGAZINE (READMAG.com) - (EDITOR'S PICK) Wooo! Finally, some punk rock! Jeez, you'd think punk labels would release PUNK. But no - everything coming out of all the big "punk" labels are massive, chunky logs of fetid shit, encrusted with emo giblets like so many pieces of undigested corn. Thankfully, Punkcore is still around, hanging out on the sidelines and continually releasing some real punk rock. Of course, it's not all great punk rock, but I will take what I can get. What I would've shrugged off as derivative and mindless 5 years ago I now consider the last hope for a dying breed. So, no, Scarred aren't revolutionary, but they play the punk rock, and it's nice and fun and fast and snotty and street punky and mohawky and angry and simplistic and silly and '77-Brit-stylee and guitary and drummy and that's all I ever want. And what the hell - these guys ARE good, with great midtempo background vox chorus parts. Check out "Bastards," "Repression," the super melodic "Rotting," and the awesome stripped-down rocker "Drone." You know what, forget everything I said. Even if there were other punk bands out there today, these guys would still stand out. The more I listen to this album, and the drunker I get while listening to it, the more I realize it kicks my ass so hard, I can taste my own intestines. I WANT TO HAVE SEX WITH THE PUNK ROCK!!! Whee, I'm drunk! Punkcore, punkcore.com ((( EDITOR'S PICK )))
LOUD FAST RULES ..4 - The Scarred play a mixture of 77 style punk rock & roll and early 80s OC stuff and they do a damned fine job of it! All 12 songs here are top notch, but my personal favorites are the title track, "Nobody Cares" & "Drone". Ixve had a lot of great stuff to review this month, but this is my top pick. On tour this summer with Cheap Sex, see you there! -Manitoba
SKA PUNK AND OTHER JUNK - This is the The Scarred's debut album on Punkcore and it's filled with punk rock goodness! The songs are fast, snotty and remind you of songs from 1977. The Scarred are an awesome street punk band and this is something to listen to. Trust me. - http://www.skapunkandotherjunk.com/
TOWER RECORDS . COM - Southern California punks the Scarred blend the sound of 1970s bands like the Clash and the Sex Pistols with 21st-century metal on their sophomore album, NO SOLUTION. Titles like "Bastards," "Rotting," and "Submission" (the latter not the Sex Pistols song) give a clue to the trio's traditional punk lyrical obsessions, while their aggressively low-tech sound should win over a lot of punk rock fans looking for something beyond the Green Day-Blink 182 axis. © Muze/MTS Inc. - TowerRecords.com
SAINT ROCK N' ROLL - "Punk is not dead, and the Scarred proves so on their sophomore album "No Solution". The sound of these socal punk rockers resembles that of Bad Religion and Pennywise. Layered vocals and the usage of power chords throughout is the general sound of The Scarred, but it also describes thousands of other punk acts. Intriguing guitar solos are what set The Scarred apart from all their fellow bands.
However, I can not help notice how impossibly similar each and every track on the album sounds to each other. One thing The Scarred can change to improve is to add more variety to their sound so that the record is more interesting. Sure, there are songs that stood out among others, such as "I don't wanna", but the vast majority of the tracks is too indistinguishable.
Overall, "No Solution" is straight forward real punk rock, unlike the pop
punk that's dominating the music scene these days. There is no doubt that if The Scarred keep on going the way they had been for the past few years, they will land themselves a permanent spot on the Warped Tour in no time. The Scarred is definitely a band all old school punk fans ought to listen to." - SaintRockNRoll.com
NEUFUTUR MAGAZINE - Most individuals that are into punk music have heard The Scarreds title track to No Solution either on their Myspace or through another place. The track is not quite as out there and street punk as some of Punk Cores other bands, but the catchiness present in acts like The Unseen is present as well in The Scarred. During songs like Battlefield, The Scarred mix together acts like Bad Religion with The Germs to come up with something current while still having the bite of previous days. Where each of the discs earlier tracks had their own version of catchiness, Bastards kicks things up a notch in the deadpan delivery that is put forth by the backing vocals on the track.
The style put out by The Scarred should remind individuals of early Anti-Flag, albeit with a intensity that Anti-Flag just was not able to muster with their last few releases. For the individuals that might be getting tired of the straight forward type of punk that The Scarred have put forth with the first half of the disc, there is a psychedelic/seventies type of rock track present in Submission. The slower tempo of the track may seem to some to be an unnecessary turn for the band, but this 180 is essential for the band to keep things fresh while expanding their sound to include a few different styles. This change in styles is not something that the band sticks with for any length of time, but just doing this for one track means that the band is not stuck into any one given style for the entirety of this disc.
The distinctive guitars that are present during a track like Repression derive obviously from the Bad Religion side of things, but The Scarred recontextualize them in such a way that they are given a completely new luster without seeming like a Bad Religion rip-off. Another shift in style that keeps the line of change open for The Scarred happens during Drone, which is a track that moves back to the fifties for influence. Where a lot of the punks will hate songs like Submission and Drone, these tracks should be the ones given the most time as they show different sides to this amazing band. The Scarred keep punk alive and kicking instead of creating the musical style into something like a Frankensteins Monster, capable of only doing a few things. Top Tracks: Drone, Submission - Rating: 7.4/10 - NeuFutur.com
