About Me

Blood or Whiskey formed in 1994 and are widely regarded as the first post- Pogues band to mix Traditional Irish music with Punk Rock, predating the current worldwide trend of plastic paddy Irish infused Punk Rock. Having spent the first 8 years of their existence playing every venue in Ireland, England and Scotland while perfecting their own unique sound, in 2002 the band set their sights outside the Emerald Isle and in the following 4 years toured America 4 times and performed all over Europe.
After a difficult 2006 when Tin Whistle player Alan Confrey died suddenly aged 33 on the last day of a UK tour supporting Stiff Little Fingers, the band took a break from touring and have kept busy since then writing and recording a new album (which is due in early 2009)
2007 saw the band do 8 weeks all over Europe plus two UK tours, on the homefront the band played to 10,000 in The Big Top in the Phoenix park supporting Manu Chao at his request and a Xmas show in the RDS main hall with the legendary Pogues topped off a great comeback year for the band.
2008 has been a busy year for Blood or Whiskey, with an Italian tour in March, German tour in April with Fiddlers Green and a full European tour with The Misfits in May, followed by France, Holland, Switzerland, Germany and Austria in September, the band has also been kept busy during the summer with The Mantua, Blackpool Rebellion and Beautiful Days Festivals. A short UK tour in October finishes with a date in The Glasgow Barrowlands with RANCID.
Things are looking up again for the band that has had more than its fair share of knocks over the years including record label hassles ongoing (no thanks to Punk Core Records in Long Island), bust ups, drink, feuding ex members, drugs, nervous breakdowns, hospital, Prison, and even death.
Ignored by the mainstream media the band have built a massive underground loyal fanbase worldwide from constant touring, something thatâ€™s not about to change as the band still has a resilience and a stubbornness that no one can keep down. See you up the front Slainte!
