The Jilted Brides are a psychedelic folk/electronic duo from Melbourne, Australia. Psychedelic in the original Greek means 'clarifying the soul'.
Tanya sings and creates video projections for our performances, Nicole sings, plays keys and writes and produces the songs.
We formed in December 2007. And we have just finished our album Larceny of Love. Larceny of Love is divided into two 'sides' - psychedelic ballads then electronic hymns. We have put up a selection of the ballads and one of the hymns, we hope you like them:-)
Tanya is a vocalist, video artist and photographer. Her channel is youtube.com/tanyaandrea. Nicole is a song writer and producer, with a long background in electronica (B(if)tek, Artificial) and also more recently, folk rock ( Dust ).
The Jilted Brides sing about heartache, the dark night of the soul, spiritual yearnings and desire. Our music is both sacred and profane, just like love.
We sound a little like a cross between Leonard Cohen, Air and The Carpenters, Boards of Canada and Bobbie Gentry, Brigid Bardot leaning against the easy snap and click of drum machines, old organs and '70s synthesizers. Our 808 has been drinking:-)
Many thanks to some special people who did some session work on the album: Mark Gardiner (guitar), Gavin Vance (bass) and Graham Lee (pedal steel).
We are very honored to be working with Kuba Fiedorowicz , who is one of the most gifted visionary painters in the world. Kuba has created the artwork for 'Larceny of Love', and you can see some of his paintings in the images that accompany the songs 'Feelings Never Felt Before' and 'Lot to Learn' on this site. Tanya has provided the images to the other songs.
We recently played at the New Music West festival in Canada (Sat May 17), and are now in the US. We have been fortunate enough to have been invited to take up a number of wonderful artist residencies at different spectacular locations around the US over the next 6 months. We also have some performances scheduled in New York later in the year. Details are in our gig listings.
We have a few duplicated copies of Larceny of Love . However, while we are in the States, we are looking for sponsorship/ financial assistance to manufacture and release a small run of the CD in this territory. If anyone out there wants to help us achieve this, please contact us here or email thejiltedbrides at nicoleskeltys dot com. We have also set up a Jilted Bridal Registry, to enable people to provide donations towards the CD - all donors will get a free copy of Larceny of Love of course (smudged with kisses), and our undying gratitude!
Things are happening fast for us, so stay tuned for frequent updates:-)
