About Me
..CLICK THE PICTURE ABOVE TO PURCHASE 'THE DELVE'The first childhood memory I have is seeing Robert Smith’s face of The Cure on my TV screen. I was fascinated and drawn in by this strange looking creature creating beautiful sounds. Robert's music was to become one of the deepest influences on my spirit. I was six years old.Shortly after, I discovered Madonna’s 'Erotica' album and Michael Jackson’s 'Dangerous'. I was captivated by the power of their performance and the strength of their delivery. I think I nearly broke the VHS copy we had of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. As a youngster I watched that movie religiously. Even if I was “too young†to understand what it all meant- I still knew that these figures stirred something in me.My mom tells me I badgered her into finding me a voice teacher when I was eight years old. Before I ever picked up an instrument I wrote creatively. It was something innate. Expressing myself felt natural, and became more like a compulsion than a hobby. I remember hearing Tori Amos’ “Little Earthquakes†album play throughout the house. Little did I know how much her music would effect my life as I got older. When I was twelve years old I began piano lessons. At age thirteen I made one of the best decisions of my life- to be home schooled. The prison of public school was gnawing at my spirit. Being home schooled allowed me freedom as an individual. I began a long and personal journey into discovering myself as an artist. Dedicated to practicing piano and writing, I began integrating my musical knowledge into creative song form. I would write poetry and lyrics in a personal journal daily (and I still do- seriously they are really stacking up). I grew into my own uninhibited and honest style of expression. I became overwhelmed with a hunger for creativity. So what would have been my “high school years†became an immense period of growth for me. I purposely took myself out of public schools to kind of build my own world. I would stay up until 3am hanging out with Oscar Wilde, Anais Nin, F. Scott Fitzgerald…These literary figures were like my best friends. Their style and artistry became some of the strongest influences in my lyrics and train of thought. In 2004 I met Michael Garcia (vocalist/guitarist for Parallax View). He was the first person I shared my music with. From the beginning I felt Michael truly believed in me. Because of his patience and encouragement, I continued to work hard and focus on my original compositions. He would become one of the most important figures in my musical life. In 2004 I made my first raw demo. It was a slightly unfinished yet promising version of what would evolve into 'Behind The Footlights'.Upon buying my first acoustic piano, I landed a job at a local music store. I was sixteen. From then on, my world changed in many ways. I met so many talented and knowledgeable people. At this time in my life I went through many emotional, romantic, and musical experiences. Each of these became an important and integral part of my creative process. I felt a part of myself emerge. Art, in every sense, was the very core of my being. It was at this job where I met Jeh Horton, who would soon become my musical partner. Jeh was a local guitar teacher who was planning to open his own teaching studio. Jeh was dead set on convincing me to come teach piano. And it worked. I began teaching piano in October of 2006.I finished home school and continued to take classical instruction. For the first time in four years I changed piano teachers. This led to many other transitions in my personal and musical life. In April 2007 I made another raw demo ('Shipwreck'). I know I was stepping closer and closer to being ready for my first recording. I couldn’t help but feel more passionate towards my creativity rather than my college studies.Jeh and I started to accidentally write songs together. Jeh would come up with a guitar part, and I would take it home with me. I would hear a melody, a chord progression and write the lyrics. So what you are hearing on this EP is my solo work, but is also a bit of collaboration between Jeh and me. The piano songs are always a private thing for me. But when Jeh and his acoustic guitar came along, my ears were opened up to a new creative avenue. I grew musically and creatively more than I thought possible in 2007.By 2008 I was brimming. I knew something bigger than myself was telling me it was time to record. I saved up (lots) of money, and with the help and encouragement from friends and family The Delve was soon in the making. It was strange. Tiny dreams started to come true, and everything flew by in a quick, heavy swirl of intensity and vision. Myself, Michael Garcia and Jeh Horton, produced The Delve. As for The Delve EP- the songs came gently. After first times, never agains, and waiting. Some songs brand new, some years old. Gently to make sure I was ready; to see how I would receive them. I became open, overly sensitive, and very in tune to these voices. I understood their importance in my life, in human expression, and maybe to reaching others. As a musician and an aesthetic, my goal is to create music with substance, depth and a quality of beauty. Everything comes to life with expression. Art is truth for me. When I write, everything makes sense. I want to share that beauty, that intimacy- even if it is just for three minutes and thirty seconds. It is an artist’s purpose to explore and dive into every emotion, every experience. This is exactly why I chose the title “The Delveâ€. I will always work my ass off- I will always do whatever it takes to serve art as responsibly and passionately as I ever have. As I ever can.Put these banners on your page!
