Photo Credit: Ariana Delawari The Afghan people have suffered nearly every hardship known to man over the last 30 years. Although Afghanistan is slowly beginning to come around, the future is extremely fragile. This is a crucial time to step up and help rebuild.
Afghan Friends Network (AFN) is a non-profit organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area that facilitates and funds knowledge exchange and resource donations to Afghanistan. Our boards and committees are made up of Americans and Afghans with diverse backgrounds including engineering, law, marketing, urban planning, education, and architecture.
AFN strives to deliver programs in two primary categories, education and cultural/community awareness. Our main area of focus is the province of Ghazni the second largest province in Afghanistan. Located just 60 mile southwest of Kabul, Ghazni receives little or no outside assistance.
The education system in Afghanistan broke down during nearly 30 years of war. Schools were destroyed, students were sent home and teachers lost the opportunity to teach. As one of the poorest regions in one of the poorest countries on the planet, it is not surprising that the women and children of Ghazni are among the most disadvantaged. They face challenges every day that discourage them from learning and make it virtually impossible to become literate.
AFN has been focused on empowering the people of Afghanistan through education--in particular women and girls. We have done this by creating programs and projects that meet their unique needs.

AFN has been working hard to improve the lives of women and children in Afghanistan. Because Afghan Friends Network is an all-volunteer, grass-roots organization, we are able to efficiently provide support directly to the people who need it most, setting a high standard for fiscal responsibility and program excellence. We are succeeding because we are tightly focused on education, an area that will have a huge impact for generations to come. All of our work is accomplished on a very limited budget. We ask your help in order to continue our work.
