Specializing in the music and storytelling of the prewar blues masters Jon Short picks away at his National Steel Guitar with hypnotic passion, typically feeling his way through with his eyes closed and feet stomping time on the floorboards. Based in the Northeast US, he travels and performs between 100-150 shows per year in clubs, blues rooms and festivals from Massachusetts to Mississippi holding residencies at Vincent's in Worcester, MA and Terra Blues in New York City.
Having recently returned from his first European tour, Short has continued his work with Blues in Schools programs passing the music to another generation of performers and audiences. Representing the Downstate NY Blues Association, he competed in the Semi-Finals at the 2008 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN.
His high energy solo performances bring a foot-stomping show that captivates audiences and taps into the heart of the songs, history and folklore of blues. When backed by his band The Barrelhouse Ramblers, acoustic sets feature an old-timey pre-war sound while the electric sets creep up to North Mississippi hill country, Memphis & Chicago showing the influence of early Muddy, Howlin’ Wolf, the 3 Kings and R.L. Burnside. Working with seasoned industry professionals "Hubcap" Brian Rost (Billy Blue, Mickey Bones) on bass, "Captain Billy" Nadeau (Junior Brown, Wanda Jackson) on drums and Chip Smith (Spider John Koerner) on fiddle & harp, this band has the players and the sound to bring the blues.

BLUES IN SCHOOLS
Drawing upon a near decade of working in public schools, Jon Short also provides assemblies, workshops and lectures on the history, development and importance of blues music in American culture. Holding a M.Ed in Curriculum and Instructional Technology he is able to incorporate state frameworks into presentations and workshops that address learning standards across the curriculum.
Available for inschool and afterschool programs his "HAVE BLUES, WILL TRAVEL" program can serve as enrichment in the arts and academic curriculum. Using large and small group activities his programs range from single 45-60min presentations to ongoing workshops that can provide instrument lessons for individual and ensemble instruction (guitar, harmonica, piano, bass, drums).
With eight years of experience as a classroom teacher, after-school & athletics onsite coordinator he has been able to provide in-school and afterschool programs for groups ranging between 5 and 95 students at a time in multiple school districts between Central MA and Downstate NY.
