About Me
George's love affair with the drums began as a child growing up in Sierra Leone, West Africa, listening to traditional drummers. He finally got his opportunity to play on a drum kit in his final year at secondary school. Through college and after graduation he played in bands appearing in London venues such as, Rock Garden, Ronnie Scotts, Greyhound .... mainly in the rock genre. During the mid to late 80s George became interested in jazz and was introduced to musicians on the jazz course at the Guildhall, Christian Brewer, Damon Brown, Joe Basharan, Nick Cohen, and performed a few gigs in the London area, Jason Rebello was "dep" for one of these sessions. In the 90s George was a member of British jazz fusion outfit Double Vision, who were showcased live on Jazz FM, and performed in several London venues including the Jazz Cafe. At this stage George came accross "drum guru" Bob Armstrong whom he studied with for several years, enabling him to broaden his horizon to perform in several genres of music, nationally and internationally (Barcelona, Bordeaux, Cork ...), with co-founded projects Small Bo and Dwala (Bob Stuckey, Giorgio Serci). In 2006/07, George toured nationally with Sakoba Dance Theatre. He was based in Newcastle during this period, where he collaborated/performed with Nuala Dalton (singer/songwriter, guitarist, flautist), and sessioned with Soznak. During this period his teaching/compositional skills came to the fore, co-ordinating, composing and performing the music for 6 schools in the Barnet area at the Artsdepot, Barnet; and then for a North Tyneside Schools "extravaganza" at the Whitley Bay Theatre, this time for 13 schools! George also arranges and gained a music teaching diploma at Goldsmiths College, London. About the music: "Out Of Africa" is a solo drum project that I started in July 2007, and was premiered at the Rochester Festival, Northumberland, August 2007. Since then it has been an on going project and Parts 1, 2 and 3, are live studio recordings, First Avenue Studios, Newcastle, recorded June 2008. I am now writing material to expand "Out Of Africa" into a Trio format of drums, piano and bass. "Bop 2003" is from a solo project "Catch The Rhythm" a promotional CD with live drums and a sequencer. "Weekily" is a session George recorded with Soznak, it's a rough mix. The album "Esperanto" is being released this year, and "Weekily" will be one of the tracks.
