About Me

Johnny Mag Sax was born in Rochester, New York. He started playing the Saxophone when he was in the 5th Grade. He went on to play in High School Jazz and Concert Band in Jacksonville, Illinois where he grew up. He attended Western Illinois University as a Music Performance Major. While Johnny was at WIU he was also in R.O.T.C. (Reserve Officers Training Course), which offered him the opportunity to audition for an Elite group of Musicians, The United States Army Band.Johnny toured overseas with the Army Band for 2 years, playing for Military and Presidential Dignitaries as well as many concert venues with local Bands in Germany.After transferring back to the U.S.A., Johnny was assigned to Ft. Hood next to Austin, Texas where he frequently played night clubs on the famous 6th street. There, he added a blues angle to his already versatile playing style. Johnny then moved to Southwest Florida in 1997 and currently resides in Orlando, Florida.Johnny Currently has a Collaboration Cd with Guitarist Marc Vee called VMP Vee/Magsax Project . They also , have just opened for some top named smoothjazz acts such as Kenny G , Chirs Botti and Boney JamesJohnny Mag Sax, has performed on many albums with some top named recording artists , such as Ayieb Dieng, Paul Jackson Jr. , Bob Baldwin , Ruth Ann Galatas , Tata Vega , Paul Russo , Tom Dowd and Mike Blaty.Main E-Mail : [email protected] anyone would like to Buy a cd of the songs you hear on this page and more ,... Influences: There are so many to name but, i used to play along with these cd's in high school: David Sanborn , Maceo Parker, Cannonball Adderley , Benny Goodman , Louis Armstrong , Bob Minzter , Charlie Parker, Dizzy, Stan Getz , and yes Kenny G.I also listen to Gerald Albright , Chuck Loeb, Soulive, Larry Carlton, Fourplay, John Scofield, Lee Ritenour, Joe Lovano, kirk Whalum, Boney James, Down to the Bone, Earl Klugh, Euge Groove, Eric Marienthal, George Benson , Jeff Golub, Marcu Miller, Gerald Veasley ( At The base !! Incredible cd ) , Jaco, George Duke, Lyle Lovett, Michael Buble', Michael Manson, Norman Brown, Paul Hardcastle, Liquid Soul, The Rippingtons, Herbie Hancock, Tierney Allen, Steely Dan, Sting, Spyro Gyra, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Michael Mcdonald, Will Downing, Phil Perry, T.O.P., Grover Washington, Coltrane, Miles and all the grest from back in the day. I pretty much listen to everything, except Country. Maybe a few but not many .
