ANGELO GIOVAGNOLI was born in Fabrica di Roma. He started to play the trumpet at six years old, and at 9 years old, he was part in a competition for young performers, he won a scholarship from SIAE, what allowed him to attend the S. Pietro a Majella Conservatory in Naples, and the S. Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. He was still ,very young, when he graduated in French Horn, guided by M° Antonio Marchi and M° Domenico Ceccarossi. In 1969, M° Franco Ferrara wanted him as the first French Horn in the “Vacanze Musicali†(Musical Holidays) Orchestra in Venice. Later on, he moved to Palermo where he staid for two years as a first French Horn of the Teatro Massimo. In 1971 he won the role of first French Horn solo of the Teatro dell’ Opera in Roma. Between 1973 and 1977 he was teaching a French Horn in the Institute G. Briccialdi in Terni, and between 1982 and 1985 he was teaching in the S. Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. In 1970 he started his live career, joining the Gruppo di Rivalutazione Musicale, playing a part of the repertoire for French Horn and orchestra. He belongs to the soloists quintet of the Teatro dell’ Opera in Rome, played on the most important concert halls in Italy and worldwide. He is the founder and promoter new musical realities, like the Gruppo Italiano Ottoni (Italian Brass Group), the Internationa Chamber Ensemble, AMIT (Italian Music Academy) and the Spring Quintet. He was a member of the Musicians Association between 1973 and 1989. M° Franco Mannino wrote for him the Adagio for French Horn and strings orchestra. Between 1990 and 1992 he was Artistic Consultane for the Director of the Teatro dell’ Opera Gian Paolo Cresci, he took part in very important productions, like the concert of the Three Tenors in Caracalla. In 1990 he did the musical coach for the actors in the movie “Rossini Rossiniâ€, directed by Mario Monicelli, and he did the recording coordinator of the “Cavalleria Rusticana†for the movie “The Godfather pt. IIIâ€, directed by Francio Ford Coppola. Between 1992 and 1994 he took part on the RAI tv show “Uno Mattina†with the Italian Brass Group. In 1995 he did the musical coach for the actors of the movie “Croce e Delizia†by Luciano De Crescenzo, and for Nastassia Kinsky in “La biondaâ€, directed by Sergio Rubini. In 2000 he did the orchestra conduction for Arvo Part’s “Silouans Songâ€, the soundtrack movie “I cento passiâ€, directed by Marco Tullio Giordana. In 2000 – 2001 he did music coordinator in the movie “Gangs of New Yorkâ€. In the same year he was in charge of the musical services of the Festival Verdiano in Parma, creating with the artistic director Bruno Cagli to the “Centenario Verdiano†orchestra. In 2002 he took care of the Solothurn Festival in Switzerland, where he invited the Czech National Symphony Orchestra. In the same year he did the orchestra conductor during the studio recordings on “Tosca†with Belgrad’s Philarmonic for the Giorgio Ferrara’s movie “Tosca e altre dueâ€. The opera was sung by Maria Pia Ionata, Alessandro Safina, Armando Ariostini, Ezio Di Cesare and Gian Paolo Fiocchi. He was musical consulting to the movie “Callas Foreverâ€, directed by Franco Zeffirelli. In 2002 he was musical Line Producer on “I Dieci Comandamentiâ€. For more than 30 years, he has been working in movie soundtracks as a Horn player and in the musical organizator. His work has been rewarded during the years: three David di Donatello (with M° Franco Piersanti) and two oscars (with M° Luis Bacalov for “Il Postino†and M° Nicola Piovani for “La vita è bellaâ€. Since January 2005 he is part of Digital Records, where he continues to contract and organize orchestras in Rome and Prague. He has recorded music for Fonit-Cetra, BMG, EMI, Frequenz, Cabum, CAM, Music Village, and the “Tosca†CD edited by CAM.
