About Me

"AFRAID" Video:

Add to My Profile | More VideosIn the video above, Lippi juxtaposes a story of love... Admitedly mellow-dramatic and a bit patriotic, "AFRAID" features acoustic guitar, voice and cello. Written and Produced by J. Lippi, who also shot some of the footage. Directed and Edited by Martin Hogan ---- ''It's an honor to be in the Feb. 2007 issue of GUITAR PLAYER MAGAZINE. To view the article look under PICS. Though it's a small blurb and they think I'm either a brilliant hybrid or the proud owner of a busted brain, it's still pretty cool. Like the article says... Decide for yourself. Thanks for listening'' - J. Lippi ----JUANO LIPPI BAND is fronted by Producer, Guitarist and Singer-Songwriter John (Juano) Lippi. Variations of his band perform and record regularly in the New York City area. In the past Lippi was in the touring jam-band KARMIC from Michigan. "KARMIC draw equally on Jazz, Funk, Blues, Folk and Rock. Highly Recommended" - RELIX MAGAZINE ---- The YouTube videos were shot for fun late at night in Brooklyn by fellow music producer and good friend Pete Becker on a tiny digital camera. ---- For more information on KARMIC or Pete Becker's THE FIRST THIRD, look into Lippi's Friends. Also look below for more information on the songs in Lippi's music player...Lippi on the songs up top: "ZA DA DA --- This is a Lippi Band staple. The full band sounds like this at a gig. It's soulful and it's catchy. Plus LeFever's Bass line is kickin'! Dave Boisvert holds down a great pocket on the kit, and Pete Becker keeps it dirty with the rhythm guitar on the right. The bulk of this tune was recorded live at Ovasen Studios in Brooklyn through top-notch microphones and fat tube preamps & compressors. Then, I mixed and produced everything at home in Pro Tools... GUITAR DEMENTIA --- Three guys on stage flipping out improv style. I'm running my hybrid electric guitar, stereo out. The electric pickups are fed through high-end effects pedals and into an all-tube combo amplifier. The acoustic pickups are going direct to the house through really nice preamp w/color (so they are not so acoustic sounding on this number). This way I can make 'space-ship' noises switching between my reverse delay and tap-tempo sweep delay, while playing a musical phrase at the same time. By dividing my brain and managing my foot skills, it becomes easy to freak-out on top of a great rhythm section.... JUST ANOTHER DAY ON EARTH --- Again LeFever's bass line is the driving force, along with Dave B. and Pete B. it just moves really well... We recorded this the same day as 'ZA' in Brooklyn. The middle section went through many changes. I wanted it to be the Major-Earthy-Beauty of this dark statement. I made three versions of this interlude and chose one. The ending guitar solo is a mix of a new one with my Pigtronix Disnortion pedal (octava engaged) and the original live studio cut. The Outro 'MLK The King' was constructed out of a live drum jam bleeding into itself backwards and I placed a wacked-out television recording of his voice on top.... TRYING TO LIVE ---- Is an older song I worked on with Producer Rob Genter. I tracked it at home on the Korg 16 (studio-in-a-box) and he dumped it into Pro Tools. It was the second tune I ever worked on in the digital software format. Up till then everything I did was in real studios onto tape, or at home on smaller recorders. We added a real kit but it had to be slowed down to tempo which altered it's pitch in a cool way. Rob taught me alot about mixing because I asked far too many questions. I re-mastered it and added the 'drop-out' section in the last verse".... -- J.L.

Band Members: "John (Juano) Lippi is a tour de force. Virtuosity mixed with passion served neatly over cool blues. He confessed to being quite 'bi-polar' when it comes to music. This much was obvious as he played. His unique, percussive style of finger picking was at times greased lightning, other times sweet molasses. Topping it all was his downright beautiful vocals. Yes, I can describe a man's voice as beautiful, sue me!" - stephenbailey.com "Cultural Exchange Advocate" ----JOHN (Juano) LIPPI - Lead & Rhythm Guitars, Main Vocals, Handsonic, Micro Synth, Music, Lyrics and Production....MUSICIANS:CHRIS LEFEVER - Bass, Vocals....DAVID BOISVERT - Drums....PETE BECKER - Rhythm Guitar, Vocals....RIK MERCALDI - Lap Steel....OTHER PLAYERS INCLUDE:DAVE LIPPI - Bass....MADHU SIDAPPA - Drums....MATT FOUTS - Bass on "Guitar Dementia" and all other live tracks...JIMMY SCHULTZ - Drums on "Guitar Dementia" and all other live tracks...PAUL LEZINSKI - Piano on "Paul's Dementia" and "Para Sarita" and Bass on "Trying To Live"...ROB GENTER - Organ on "Trying To Live" ...I've been very lucky to work with some fantastic musicians and studio cats here in NYC and in Grand Rapids, Michigan...
