The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS) is an organization based in Warwick, Rhode Island, USA that investigates paranormal activity. It was founded in 1990 by Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson. In 2004 the organization itself became the subject of a weekly reality television series for the Sci-Fi Channel titled Ghost Hunters.
History
Hawes began TAPS in 1990; originally it was called Rhode Island Paranormal Society. According to former TAPS member Donna LaCroix, the team initially began meeting "every Sunday in a coffee shop." After RIPS began investigating cases throughout the New England area, RIPS was renamed "The Atlantic Paranormal Society". Wilson joined the effort about two years later.

Jason Conrad Hawes (born December 27, 1971 in Canandaigua, New York) is the founder of The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS), based in Warwick, Rhode Island. He is also one of the stars and co-producers of Sci-Fi Channel's Ghost Hunters, which, as of March 2008, is in its 4th season.Hawes has varied interests outside of TAPS, which include the fine arts[citation needed], fishing, martial arts, camping, hiking, writing books and screenplays, and cooking. He also spends a great deal of time participating in charity events[citation needed], raising money for everything from "Cure Kids' Cancer" to "Papers in Education." In addition, he has written four sci-fi/thriller screenplays. He and his wife, Kris, have five children - three girls and a set of twin boys.Hawes and Grant Wilson are best friends, and were coworkers when they shared a day job as plumbers for Roto Rooter.

Grant Steven Wilson is the co-founder (with Jason Hawes) of The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS), based in Warwick, Rhode Island, and participant and co-producer of the Sci-Fi Channel's Ghost Hunters, which, as of March 2008, is in its 4th season. He and his wife, Reanna, have three young children, all boys. His hobbies include writing and illustrating fantasy characters and role-playing game characters, in addition to web design. He also plays piano and guitar.Wilson and fellow TAPS founder, Jason Hawes are longtime coworkers at their day job as plumbers for Roto Rooter.Wilson and Hawes, as well as other members of the group TAPS, frequently give lectures at schools and conventions.

Steve Gonsalves is the technical manager of The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS), based in Warwick, Rhode Island.Gonsalves, a native of New Bedford, Massachusetts of Portuguese ancestry, started investigating the paranormal when he was only 16 and formed New England Paranormal in 2001. Gonsalves occasionally gives lectures on the paranormal, such as one called "Ghostbusters! The Science Behind Paranormal Investigations" which he presented on January 28, 2005 at the Boston Center for Adult Education. In June 2005, Steve co-founded TAPS Paranormal Magazine.
Before Ghost Hunters, Gonsalves was a police officer.
