Crates

STILL DIGGIN!!!!!!

About Me

We had the right idea in the beginning and we just have to maintain our focus… Crates family, the truth is “Crates” was conceived out of frustration; Terry and Gary had grown tired of hearing the same old music, played in the same order, by the same (boring) DJs. They decided that they didn’t want to be one of those same boring DJs, the time had come to stop the bitching and create something of their own…………… Before going any further, it’s only right to give a brief synopsis of how Crates was formed.Reminiscing, their first memories of each other took them back to Terry’s family home playing with a Steve Austin (the action man figure - six million dollar man) and taking turns on Gary’s first bike….it was blue….and they were aged 7 & 6 respectively. Terry would love to shake the hand of the person who coined the phrase ‘my brother from another mother’, for the simple reason he and Gary are brothers (ah it dat!) Before Crates (way way back!), they attended Down Lane Junior School in Tottenham, North London and were heavy footballers, both playing at a level two years beyond their peers…..Fast forward to the summer of ‘85 their six week experience in East Flatbush, Brooklyn New York switched up their game. Aged 14 & 15 they boarded the plane with Saxon tapes (‘Right now baby gwarn go dance’ – Tippa Irie) and came back with Lisa Lisa (Take Me Home) and Dougie Fresh & The Get Fresh Crew (The Show / La di da di). Crates icons will always be the Twilight Firm, Side Effects and Mr Daley (R.I.P) founder of W.I.B.S pirate radio station 102.4FM. Crates vibes will always stem from Thackeray Avenue sound system and the day they both busted their first cherries (in da meantime lol). Back to the here and now……they first played out under the banner of Crates in 2005, in Bar Oporto, Tottenham Court Road. It was just the two of them in attendance no family members present. It was there they learnt an invaluable lesson, they had the ability to entertain a crowd of people they didn’t know, with music the crowd didn’t know……… G Lounge Camden 2006 their first residency, Crates becomes a reality and they’ve got the logo and 5000 flyers to distribute to prove it! They express much love to Traci and Dionne for all their love and support (their only helpers back then). They can’t forget and send a big shout to all those who came out on a Monday night (even though Mondays suck in club land!).By the end of 2006 people are beginning to take Crates seriously, securing another residency in the Front Room, Church Street Stoke Newington, (Umoja – much love for the hook up). It was there where Chris, Shaun and Mark cemented themselves as honorary family members; all of you are as much Crates as Terry & Gary. They also established themselves in JAM, Shoreditch and warmed up for the DANCE DIVERSE at the Ditch Bar.Other clubs they have been fortunate enough to play out at this year include Base Bar, The Embassy, @ Club, Bar Apogee, the launch party of Lati Ri and a host of private functions. 2007 has been a progressive year for Crates, GB (see top friends list) calls it when he says “Crates is getting bigger and bigger every time”. With the help and elevation from the likes of Mr.Treets, Subliminal, Plex24 and Fireflyy, the future looks CRATES! Crates final words must go to the whole of the Crates family: “Old and newcomers, without you we are nothing and we want to thank you for all your love and support. It will always be a pleasure entertaining you and never a chore, stay blessed!”
