So...I'm a hip hop head realising that after years of stunted musical influences I've found the passion again. The story goes that I was once a lady hell bent on pursuing the dream of hip-hop, writing about it, obviously listening to it...living it. I was one of those individuals who would stay up WAY past the bed time curfew to check out those vids on Yo! MTV Raps. I would purchase two copies of The Source and stick one of the front covers on my wall before reading it front to back. When my peers had long moved onto playing C.D's in portable C.D players I was still copying my C'D's onto tapes (no I'm not late!!) because as long as I had a personal walkman it was cool with me to still be rollin' with my tapes. I would categorize each cassette, write a DETAILED description of who was featured, rate it and have them all neatly placed in a homemade rack. Whatever mood I was in when I came home I was sure to find an artist to get me grinning again. I remember back to when I would blast a Lost Boyz track, Public Enemy track, A Tribe Called Quest track and even down to early DMX (cos although I went and bought all of his albums the only one I was truly feeling was 'Its Dark and Hell Its Hot). Those tunes would get me so lost in the moment. That whole sensation had me picturing artists hollering ME down to interview them, requesting me to write up and album review... It sounds nuts but that's how it was for me way back when... I'm not really interested in the Hip Hop that's coming out nowadays. I'm finding myself going back to albums that were released in 1995 and shit! Gimme a Pharcyde 'Drop' or Tribe Called Quest 'Electric Relaxation' any time of day you no!! I'm trying to make positive moves in right directions...Its good to have someone on my page pushing me to get this whole Hip Hop dream into a reality...Shouts to my confidant Miss Plex Simplicity (YO YO YO). Our project will hopefully captivate many audiences very soon.. Everyone that wants to pursue a passion should step up and go a head with it... Don't let anyone tell you different!!
