About Me

I created my layout at KillerKiwi.netBorn in Brazil, on September 25th, 1980 (Ilhéus, Bahia State), Gabriel Santiago is a Composer/Arranger/Acoustic and Electric Guitar Player. His music is fresh and carries all of his influences that goes from Brazilian Music to Jazz and Classical Music. He just finished his second album (first solo), with a team of All Stars musicians like Gilson Peranzzetta, Odair Assad, Cliff Korman, Gabriel Grossi, Marcio Bahia, Ney Conceição, Erivelton silva, Nema Antunes and many others. The album is going to be released in June 2008. His musical background is solid, and includes a master’s degree in Musicology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro State (Unirio) in 2006, and both a bachelor’s degree in Arrangement (2004) and a Music Education Degree (2002) also at Unirio. Besides his academic education, he has studied improvisation with American pianist Clifford Korman and with Alfredo Lima, Composition and Orchestration with Antonio Guerreiro and Ricardo Tacucchian, Modal Music with Hélio Sena and Film Scoring Music with David Tygel. He produced his group’s (Samambaia) debut album, “Mosaic” (2002), in which he composed 9 of the 13 tracks for the album. As a player, he worked with a range of musicians that goes from Leny Andrade and Lula Galvão to Moacir Luz and Leandro Braga. On the theatrical music field, he worked on several shows, including 2004’s “O Pé da Árvore de Natal”, directed by Stella Miranda. In the year of 2005, he played acoustic guitar on the show “Dolores” (homage to Brazilian Singer Dolores Duran), starred by Actress/Singer Soraya Ravenle and directed by Antônio de Bonis. Most recently (2006-07), he performed on the musical “Império” (Empire), from Miguel Falabella and Josimar Carneiro, as a musician (acoustic guitar) and as an arranger (5 songs of the show were arranged by him). He also recorded the musical’s album, released in late May 2007. In Film, he worked on the score’s orchestration of director’s Paulo Sérgio Almeida movie “Inesquecível” (Unforgettable - 2007), composed by David Tygel. As a teacher, besides tutoring privately since an early age, he teaches (since 2004) Guitar and Improvisation, ensemble practice, theory and sight-reading and Harmony at the Macaé Conservatory of Music. He also taught Improvisation at UniRio as a teaching assistant in the undergraduate program for one an a half years. Recently, he taught theory and sight-reading at Unirio’s Extension program for a semester.
