About Me
Bianca Gismonti e Claudia Castelo Branco formam o GisBranco.
Duet formed by the young pianists Bianca Gismonti and Claudia Castelo Branco. Bianca is the daughter of the remarcable musician Egberto Gismonti. The duet unite the interest for Brazilian rhythms, Latins and jazz to a solid classical formation, exploring to the maximum the sonority of the piano in the border among the popular and erudite music. They built through own arrangements and of others, an unique repertoire of instrumental music for two pianos. The repertoire includes works of Astor Piazzolla, Egberto Gismonti, Hermeto Paschoal, Toninho Horta, Villa-Lobos, Ernesto Nazareth, Edu Lobo, and also own compositions besides more recent authors like Leandro Braga and André Mehmari. The duet is a highlight in the Brazilian instrumental scenery, receiving great reveiws of the specialized media and the great musicians' support as André Mehmari, Gilson Peranzzetta, Egberto Gismonti, Carlos Malta, Mauricio Einhorn, among many others.GisBranco debut album has been released in may/2008 for the label Delira Musica."Considered the revelation of the year in the instrumental music (...)" . Newspaper Central Avenue, June, 2005."Leaning in solid musical formation and technical elegance (...)" . Veja Rio, 10.08.2005."The fascination that the Duo GisBranco exercised in the audience of the festival comes from the extreme technical competence that the two possess, allied to a tuned creativity. (...) The result is brilliant." . Joinville Jazz Festival"The duet possesses a light of their own (...) The Duo GisBranco is music of the best quality and hopefully that is heard by many." . Newspaper of ParaÃba, 08.11.2005.Bianca Gismonti and Claudia Castelo Branco, they form GisBranco. Two virtuoses of the piano to the service of the best of the music, in a partnership that gives name to the first CD of the duet and mark the pianists' premiere in the label Delira Musica. The girls integrate the new generation of musicians that renew the Brazilian musical scene with creativity and good taste.Girls' game, meditation to four hands, how to define the relationship between those two musicians, in the border between the popular and the erudite?Leaning in a solid musical formation and technical expertise, the partnership of these young pianists is in such an organic and flowing way that is difficult to explain just with words.A musical symbiosis would not be a proper name to explain the relationship between these artists that play identical instruments - they are 176 notes of the two pianos – with the purpose of reinterpret the best of the popular music. That, because in spite of the erudite formation, what GisBranco does is popular music ‘orchestrated’ for piano; because they work with the best composers' of our tradition work; of Villa-wolves to Ernesto Nazareth; going by Edu Lobo, Astor Piazzolla and Egberto Gismonti. However, if in their pianos, they are mixed in such a way to the point of the listener not to distinguish where it begins an and it finishes the other, it is in the conception of the arrangements and in the choice of the repertoire of the disk that we can notice the difference among the two. To the we observe the way as the themes were treated, some times composed by them, other times for composers of the caliber of Guinga, Jobim and Ernesto Nazareth; it is that we can find Bianca's place, and the one of Claudia, as well as the function of GisBranco, that other musical body created by them.Bianca for instance, it will look for in Almodóvar of he/she Speaks to Her and in Elis' recording and Tom, the inspiration to recreate For All My Life, classic of the conductor, with letter of VinÃcius; giving erudite airs, for not saying, "chopinianos" to Jobim's song. He/she also is not frightened, before the weight of the inheritance of the name that carries, when daring to choose a song of Guinga, the worshipped of the contemporary composers, giving color to the beautiful woman, Cry for Zé.Already Claudia travels in Moacir Santos of Nanã. Thing n.5 and in César Camargo Mariano Curumim, showing all his/her versatility, experience acquired the group close to PianOrquestra. But it is in Those Whole Things, of Toninho Horta, Opening, of Délia Fischer, Malicious, of Ernesto Nazareth and the Speech of the Passion, of Egberto Gismonti, that the Duet takes a risk of truth; when he/she intends to create the arrangements jointly: to invoke, to order and to consolidate thousands of ideas using the same instrument type is not work for any one, still more in if treating of an instrument as complete as the piano; it is as doing two whole orchestras sound with only four hands. There are no a lot of experiences of duets as that in the history of the popular music. César Camargo Mariano and Wagner Tiso made something similar there are some years ago using electronic keyboards. Délia Fischer's experiences and Cláudio Dauelsberg, Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea, maybe also can be reminded as instrumentalists' examples that worked with that format; but that be a way of working more common to erudite duets. And why did those girls choose the most complicated road? For pure maybe, according to them. Because in the school the where they studied there was a room with two pianos, a facing one the other; and there they could meet for studying, without nobody inconvenienced. But why, then, not to play to four hands and in the same piano? Because that would implicate in dividing the piano to the middle, and there, they would not be more two whole parts to service of a third part, it also completes in itself.Maybe be there, the key for understanding the operation of the Duet. But for that, it is better not to speak and yes to listen to GisBranco, to 12° strip of the CD, of authorship of Bianca. In her we sent ourselves to an entangled of sounds, that I begin her give us to the impediment impression, scratched disk; something that doesn't find a place. But it is exactly there that we came across the music of GisBranco; in that that escapes us; as a child game."Recently I heard an unusual version, creative and super interesting of my instrumental theme 'Those Whole things' for the girls Bianca and Claudia of the duet GisBranco. They invented a contemporary atmosphere beautifully, with touches Bartokeanos and with a Brazilian swingue of very pleasant and necessary samba and they maintained with category the melody and harmony of my music. With certainty the CD will be wonderful, and I can assure that the duet GisBranco makes an original work of fine taste besides being very attractive for a public of all of the ages, for the clarity, purity and feeling when playing with lightness the 176 notes of the two pianos."
