I'm extremely busy and involved in the local music scene because I LOVE music. It is my passion! Memphis has a lot of great talent and I want to be a part of putting Memphis back on the musical map where the City was in it's earlier heyday as an Independent Music City as well as helping build a future legacy for musicians and generations to come! Sound like a lot? It is! Read on!
I'm a founding member and co-chairman of the board of directors for the Memphis Area Band Association, an association created to educate, organize and help promote original rock (mostly rock but all genres are welcome!) bands in the Memphis and surrounding area (North Mississippi, Eastern Arkansas, West Tennessee). I'm on the executive board of the Musician's Advisory Council, a sub-committee of the Memphis & Shelby County Music Commission. This is a unique forum conceived and moderated by musicians to address specific needs and issues associated with being a working musician in a rapidly changing musical environment within the Memphis music community and beyond. We are also geared to support and promote the strategic plan of the Music Commission in order to build new musical industry in Memphis! I'm also a venue coordinator for the Blues Foundation for various events throughout the year, including the Handy Awards and the International Blues Challenge/ Blues First weekend. I'm a past President of the Beale Street Blues Society. I edit a music newsletter called "The Social Director" which covers all aspects of the Memphis music scene, regardless of genre. I also participate and support the efforts of the Rap Coalition's educational panels for the local urban music scene as well as provide promotional support of Tha Movement, the neo-soul force in Memphis! I have recently started working free-lance as a consultant on various music projects around the area such as conferences, marketing plans and workshops.
I've also recently been elected to serve a three year term on the board of directors for the Memphis chapter of Girls, Inc. , a national non-profit youth organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be "strong, smart and bold". Girls Inc. provides researched, outcome-based, and age-progressive programs to millions of American girls, particularly those in high-risk, under-served areas. Innovative programs help girls confront subtle societal messages about their value and potential, and prepare them to lead successful, independent and fulfilling lives.
******PLEASE NOTE: I am NOT a booking agent or rep. I have "retired" from that aspect of the business. I will ONLY book larger events or festivals but no longer have the time for the regular daily or weekly gig booking for local clubs.*******
I also have a day job at The Regional Medical Center at Memphis and I participate in hashing and beer drinking practice as often as possible! NO! Hashing is NOT what you think! It's running for beer!! It's a lot of fun and great stress relief!
I LOVE rock-n-roll!! Can you tell? And no, I rarely sleep!
For all the time I spend around loud music, I'm a very quiet person. In my down-time, when there is such a thing, I enjoy reading, movies, hiking, museums & galleries, the zoo, hanging with friends and checking out other genres and styles of music. I love classical, jazz and hip/hop, too! I'm equally at home swilling martinis as I am chugging beer or sipping wine and can move from a high brow setting to a low brow setting with ease. I enjoy meeting people and am told that I always make everyone feel comfortable and welcome. My friends call me the "Social Director", hence the name of my newsletter. I'm always on the go!
At this point in time, I am on a spiritual journey so I have been spending quite a bit of time in reflection, study and growth. I am not a judgemental person nor am I a perfect person. I tend to have a world-view on most things spiritual and I have found that what's important is that which gives you peace. So embrace it! This is my balance to all that is frenetic, fun and yet hectic in my life. This place B'Rit HaDasha is an important part in my life at this time.
This is the baby girl that I sponsor through Holt International. I love her dearly. Her name is Cha Yang Lin.
This is my ex-husband and one of the people I have listed as a hero to me. He was a great love in my life. Thanks to Debbie, Aubriana and Ivy DePew for this photo. They were great friends to Ronnie and adopted him into their family.
My Pals and a favorite band of mine!! THE UNITED
Here's a site for my friends in Egypt Central. John can crash (or otherwise) on my sofa anytime and I'll always stop and give Blake a ride where-ever he needs to go! =)

I love this guy and his momma and his sister, too! And his entourage. I love them too. Yep. Sure do. Check'em out...he's guaranteed to put a smile on your face!! Muck Sticky!

My Interests

My Huey-bunny! Music, Concerts, Art, Hiking, Hashing, Architecture, Traveling, Books, Movies, Music, Art, Wine, Art, Music, Music, Writing and oh yeah, Music!! And of course, it goes without saying: men. REAL men. ;) Oh, and my new addiction: my PS2!!! My balcony and it's magnificent view! =) Spirituality and growth. Christian anarchism.

I'd like to meet:

YOU!! Interesting people of all kinds, all ages, all backgrounds. I like watching people and getting to know a variety of people.

As for dating or hanging out, one on one: Someone who can keep up!!! Someone who is a person in their own right and doesn't feel the need to be "joined at the hip" 24/7 but enjoys spending time together with me as time permits and has a strong sense of spirituality. Someone on the same path as I am! Someone who knows what respect is and is kind in their heart. NO ATTITUDES, please!! Just be a genuine, real person!! I don't like arrogance or game-playing and I prefer someone who is straight-forth! I prefer someone who is as much into music as I am and perhaps is a music professional (so they understand the craziness!). I prefer the age group of 30-45 although I seem to lately be dating guys in that 27-29 year old age-range. I am NOT complaining, by any means! I'm actually really loving it! It's important that they be secure and not the jealous type because I do work with a lot of HOT young musicians! =)

I prefer someone well-rounded in their interests and tastes who is flexible....this means someone who can be happy chilling at home just as well as running full throttle out and about on occasion! They must love live music and have an open-mind when it comes to their musical tastes! I'm a very affectionate person who hugs a lot (ok, I hug everyone!) so they can't be afraid to receive (or give!) affection! And most of all, they must be FUN with a twisted sense of humor!!

I do tend to prefer creative, intelligent, imaginative types who defy stereotypes in their own way....not caught up in titles or labels...but just genuine and real. Again, a laid-back, fun attitude is great!

***I have met a guy who fits this criteria completely and he is wonderful! I have to give props to My Space for helping break the ice and, although our paths have crossed so many times over the past 20 years, My Space helped our separate paths merge into one path!! Sounds a bit cheesey, I know, but it's true!! ***

I like foreign films, too, such as The Pillow Book, Le Femme Nikita, Le Coeur en Hiver, Y Tu Mama Tambien......etc... ;) MyGen Profile Generator

Television:

Don't have a lot of time for television but I do love British Comedy so BBC is a fave....Coupling...Monty Python...REALLY, any and all British comedy or British Mystery! Da Ali G show, The Kumars at No. 42, The PBS series, Mystery.... Keen Eddie, ER, CSI: Miami and CSI. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel reruns (Thanks, Matt!).....The Gilmore Girls.... Just don't have time to watch much t.v.!
Ok, so yeah, I'm hooked on the Rockstar series. Here's the TRUE WINNER, in my opnion, of Rockstar: Supernova! Sorry for you Lukas fans but......he's a dime a dozen. I'm not saying he isn't also talented but he's just not that original!! (yeah, I said it!) And Dilana has both pure, raw talent AND a personality! What's more? We've all heard the show was rigged and the whys and hows but it's still FUN TELEVISION so......anyway, here you go! I'm a fan of Dilana's!! MyGen Profile Generator MyGen Profile Generator

Books:

Anything by Carl Hiaasen, Mario Puzo, Anne Rice, Jeffrey Archer, Colin Dexter, Dean Koontz, Soheir Khashoggi (sister of Adnan), Stephen King.....novels in general.....and autobiographies. The Bible, the Koran, The Jewish Book of Why, The Tao of Pooh, Christianity & Anarchy by Jacques Ellul, The Law of Love and the Law of Violence by Leo Tolstoy, anything by C. S. Lewis..... Three books I loved that I read a year or so ago are "Memoirs of a Geisha"...written by a man, Arthur Golden, and based on a real geisha, Mineko Iwasaki; The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini (about growing up in Afghanistan before the Russian and Taliban coups) and "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz, based on Toltec wisdom. Very good books! Three personal all-time favorites in the non-fiction category are: Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl (you will never forget this book, written by a Holocaust survivor!) and Dark Eros & Care of the Soul, both by Thomas Moore. Make your own Banner Here!

Heroes:

Ronnie Young and Ali Ghoreishi. The DePew family for caring for my ex-husband when he needed it most....unselfishly and lovingly.
My boyfriend, Huey. He's a much nicer, kinder individual than I am and he inspires me to be nicer in my heart. He's got such a unique and kind viewpoint on the world! I've learned a lot from him. He's taught me a lot about respect. He's fantastic! He's helped me melt some of the ice and stoicism around my jaded heart!
Sharon Osborne! I would love to have her as a mentor! Benazir Bhuto, the first woman Prime Minister of Pakistan. Lisa Halaby aka Queen Noor of Jordan. Margaret Thatcher. (All STRONG women!) Anyone who stands up for what they believe in, in the face of adversity, and never gives up on their beliefs. Anyone who gives their time and heart unselfishly to whatever cause moves them....without thought to how it can profit them....those who do so diligently and earnestly. Anyone who gets right back up and keeps right on going no matter how many times they fall or fail........or who perseveres on in the face of tragedy or obstacles!
Also, because I sometimes take for granted the freedoms that we have in the States, I admire those who have had their world turned upside down due to revolution and governmental changes and have had to escape from their homes to freedom, often in conditions we can only have nightmares about and with nothing more than the clothes on their backs..... People like my former sisters/brothers-in-law (my ex-husband's family) and their friends who fled the middle-east and the religious zealots who gained power (greed, cruelty, infamy) in the name of Mohammad.....to practice their own brand of genocide and religious persecution. We can only imagine how it is to wake up one day and everything we have known is ripped away from us and we have to go back to living a life worse than that of the Puritan days......when you can be stoned for the most minor of incidents.
