RITUAL

THE CHAOS IS COMING IN 2007

About Me

THE ORIGINAL BRUTAL GROOVE METAL BAND WAS THE ORIGINAL RITUAL
The band was originally concieved in 1990 seperatly by Jon Simpson, Mark Peyton and Heath Joyce. Jon and Mark were high school buddies and Heath was living in another city a few hours away. They were all seeking to form the heaviest band possible without being death or black metal. Similar to what bands like Pantera and Machine Head were just starting to do with the whole "Power Groove" thing. Ritual took that idea to the next level by adding more technical and brutal aspects to the sound. (Basically what bands like Messhugah and Slipknot started figuring out almost a decade later) Anyways, in 1992 the 3 guys hooked up and the magic was instantanious. Songs Heath had written and songs Jon had written were immediatly fused together as well as new material written. Within 6 months Ritual had recorded a demo and were playing live. At a time when bands like Poison and Warrent were still hudge, Ritual was the most intimidating thing to come out of the music scene at that time, especially in Memphis. Spec deals were offered and turned down. Production deals were made but when the production sucked Ritual walked.
"The band was too important to sacrifice it's integrity at the hands of idiots who didn't know a thing about making the kind of metal record we wanted. So in the end we decided if we couldn't do it right we wouldn't do it at all. We made a promise to ourselfs that if we could ever get to a place in the music industry where we could have full control over the project, we would pic Ritual back up. We knew that we were ahead of our time, so we figured if it took a few years to get back to doin Ritual, we'd probably be right on time. It's so funny now to hear people say we sound like bands who weren't even around when this stuff was written, but then there's no way they could know that it's actually those bands that sound like us. Even though it's bassackwards it's still a nice compliment, considering many of these bands are very talented and some went on to make millions. It's just to bad we didn't get a cut (haha). So here were are in 2005 and many bands have now done their version of what we were doin as early as 1990. Some have done really good. I think Living Sacrifice has done the best all around so far. Their music is awesome and they actually have something to say worth listening to instead of the same old pain, hate, anger lyrics that you hear in almost every metal song. Not that there's anything wrong with it here and there, but after a while it starts getting old. Not to mention all the stupid devil, satan garbage. Do any of these kids even know what a pentagram is? It's not a symbol for metal. (It's more like a symbol for jackass. Which is probably why the old star from the show "Jackass" adapted his own version of the symbol. Thats right Bam Bam, just what a growing kid needs more confusion.) Anyways, if that struck a chord with you, then now you know how i feel. Thank God we're all allowed to have an opinion. But off of politics and religion. The issue at hand is Metal and we can all agree on that. After hearing all the different versions of metal music offered today, now it will soon be time for us to do our version. Hope you enjoy and keep it Metal"
