"Death", so that I can look into the charcoal void of the beast's abyssmal eye-sockets and say: "So, does this mean I don't have to pay off my student loans?".
My five (ha! as if i could keep it to 5) favorite singers are, not necessarily in this order except for the first one: Frank Sinatra; Robert Plant; Astrud Gilberto; Johnny Rotten; Dean Martin; (ok six) James Brown; (seven) Mick Jagger. OMG I left Ian McCullogh off that makes eight; nine is a 3-way tie between Debbie Harry, Elvis and Ray Davies; 10 is a 4-way tie between Ozzy, Morrissey, Elvis Costello and Bon Scott. The honorable mentions are British Metal Must-Includes Bruce Dickenson, Paul Di'Anno and Rob Halford. Ok no more I promise. Somewhere Neil Diamond must be mentioned, though. I'm a promise breaker!!! I must include s'more...Bob Dylan, George Jones, Diana Ross, Darby Crash, Johnny Cash, Dave Vanian, Bo Diddley, Lou Reed, Lemmy & last but not least, Iggy. Nor is he any longer last! Chuck D, Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Tom Petty, Chrissie Hynde, Black Francis, Steven Malkmus and Mark E. Smith. Oh what the hell, throw Reg Presley in there too. And John Lennon...duh. Duh, there's more: Chris Bailey, T.Ruane, Jonathan Richman, Eric Burdon, David Bowie, Brett Anderson, Joey Ramone, Nash Kato, King Roesser, Gene Clark & Roger McGuinn and Linda Ronstadt. Oh what the hell, throw Carole King in there too (if you're wondering how the hell I came to be a fan of Carole King and Linda Ronstadt, my mom listened to them tons whilst I crawled about on the floor in the early 70's. I also gained a healthy respect for Carly Simon and a respect, if not really a taste, for Helen Reddy. My mom's "I am woman, hear me roar" phase was significant.). And David Lee Roth...duh. Plus, Stiv Bators, Jim Reid, Vince Neil on the first two MC albums, Stevie Nicks pre-Mirage Fleetwood Mac and how could I even consider leaving off Ronnie James Dio. Even if his voice sucked he'd still make my favorite rock lyrics (he co-invented fantasy metal and 80's inspiration rock style lyricism simultaneously!) list. Plus, Roger Daltrey, John Robinson, Jimmy West and David Byrne on the first four Talking Heads albums (after Remain in Light their stuff may as well be 80's saxaphone). Glenn Mercer, Ian Curtis...oh this could go on and on. What the hell throw Jack Bruce on there, and yes, it must be acknowledged since I was a big Doors fan as a kid (and am still a fan)...Jim Morrison. Do not judge him only on the sins of Val Kilmer. His sins were enough...he was one of the great, original rock-n-roll frontmen though, and had a great voice. Throw Nick Cave on the list too...duh. And Neil Young...double duh. And Billy Childish of course...Robin Zander too. Oh and Sky Saxon....duh. Ok two more brits -- Peter Shelley(Buzzcocks stuff) and Robert Smith (Early Cure and Degeneration). That's gotta be it! I'm through! AHHHHH!!!
