With over 20 years in the music business as a Producer/Engineer, Donnelly has worked with many of the top names in music such as: Journey (recording vocals for their album Generation , Wu-Tang Klan, Earl Slick (David Bowie;John Lennon) Phoebe Snow, Blahzay Blahzay, Kasim Sulton (The New Cars, Joan Jett; Todd Rungren; Meatloaf) Ghostface Killa, Raekwon, Method Man, and just finished recording 6 tracks for Earl Slick's “Eons†project featuring Bowie/B-52's Drummer Sterling Campbell, and singer Saphin. Film credits include Mixing the Wu-Tang Klan Documentary (winning Best Documentary Award in the 2007 Hip Hop Odessy Film Festival), Mixing "Media Matters" 90 minute feature, 10 Feature length Japanese Animation (Anime) titles including “Grave of the Fireflies†(voted Number 1 Anime Feature by the New York Times) and “Poltergeist Report†(which reached ..29 on Billboard’s Top 100 Video Chart) as well as Television programs for CBN, an episode of “The Dead Zone†for USA Networks, and most recently 20 spots for the "Dear JetBlue" ad campaign for J. Walter Thompson Advertising.
In 1979, Donnelly received a Major music Scholarship to Fort Hays State University in Kansas where he majored in music performance and minored in marketing. In the fall of 1983, after placing 2nd out of 134 Drummers in a talent contest in Kansas City, Donnelly loaded up his truck and headed to New York with $1800.00 and a dream. He spent the next 3 years playing the clubs of New York and honing his craft. Eventually, Donnelly began to acquire recording equipment to write and record commercial jingles. Laughing Dog Productions was born. With many jingles airing in the Midwest as well as several in NY, Donnelly began focusing his talents and that of the Laughing Dog Productions’ staff on music and making records. With the popularity of Hip-Hop, Laughing Dog Studios became a “breeding ground†for artist such as Wu-Tang Klan, Blahzay Blahzay (recording their hit “Dangerâ€), Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Method Man, Inspecta Deck, Cappadonna, Mob Deep, Masta Killa, and King Just to name a few, most recently recording Raekwon’s “The Lex Diamond Story†for Universal. Now in it’s 21st year, Laughing Dog Studios makes records in all styles from Jazz to Hip-Hop, Rock to Blue Grass, Blues to Dance music. And with construction underway on a new room Designed for 5.1 surround sound, Laughing Dog continues to grow and thrive as an outstanding music recording facility.
