Unlike many local acts operating in the New York City area, 13th ALIBI bands together a formidable ensemble of true New York musicians. Each of the four Alibis were raised in the boroughs of NYC and are each undeniable credits to their individual crafts. Taking the collective array of each band member's uncommon influences and incorporating them into a unique amalgamation has provided 13th ALIBI with the right blend of sound and flavor- music which is distinct enough to be innovative, yet charismatic enough to feel familiar. These guys have a gravity to them- once your near it you'll want to stay around them.
13th ALIBI has summoned the anger, the guilt, the passion and the power from the Classic Rock music of the last century and has plugged it back into the pop culture society we live in today. In a rare and refreshing endeavor, the boys in this band have infused the wisdom of an old soul with the energy and spunk of an American youth -which each of them are.
Their diverse catalogue of original material covers a range of emotions and taps into numerous musical styles, all the while remaining true to the song. From the laid back slide guitar Pitta plays on the opening of The Great Goodbye to the driving distortion crashing through the choruses of The Good Fight, you believe in what this band is saying. Take, for instance, any live performance of Blue Van or Chinese New Year. There is so much soul and funk pumping through the speakers, that you can't find a foot not stomping or a head not bobbing. 13th ALIBI's energetic shows have always been the tool used to turn strangers into enthusiasts. To hear these songs performed live, on a Friday night, in a packed venue, is all anyone needs to understand where this band is coming from.
With an astounding rhythm section (provided by Louis) leaping from blues walks to reggae to disco rhythms, it is no wonder Desharnais' poetic and insightful lyrics (sung in confident soulful voice) and Friedman's versatile styles of unique keyboarding fit tight and comfortably into the pocket of each groove.
This is not rip-off rock. There are no played out "I love you" songs or lifeless drum loops. There are no videos involved in which the band dresses in matching white suits. But you knew that, didnt you? 13th ALIBI is, for all intents and purposes, a Rock and Roll band. Hey, somebody's got to do the dirty work. ............................................................
