About Me
THE ELECTRIC DUO PROJECT
We are Talking Sound, a two-piece band from Italy. In the place where we live, this kind of band is pretty unknown, so we decided to create a space to collect similar duo: electric-guitar plus drums. What was hard to believe, to most people, was the luck of the bass-guitar in our songs: that’s the reason we didn’t want to look for two-piece bands like bass&drums. Obviously we appreciate every kind of line up, and, to say the truth, we love the sound of the bass as well understand its great contribute inside a band: it is the backbone of the rhythm section along with the drums, and it accents the melodic lines of the guitar. It’s just for this reason we dedicated a little place for them, too, in a specifical blog of this page.
When we said we were a duo, generally people thought at classic or acustic guitar plus vocals, or vocals and keyboard or at least at recorded tracks to which play along, but never electric guitar and drums, so we decided to call this formation ELECTRIC DUO. At the beginning there were few bands in our space, but soon they became a lot, thanks to the introductions by the same two-piece bands, or to the help of new friends, acting as talent scouts: we’ll never be sufficiently greatful to all of them! So this space is now a great community, a meeting point for similar artists (even if everyone of them interpretate music in its personal way) to exchange opinions, considerations and so on. We frequently receive enthusiastic encouragement for the job we are doing and obviously we are very proud of the result. We are also trying to promote these minimalist bands, and for the moment we’ve achieved the goal to organize an Italian Two-Piece Bands Festival, here in Italy for July (soon a new blog with every particular of the event). Hoping could happen the same in other countries, too! So friends, busy yourself!
Seeing so many similar bands all over the world gave us a great sense of identity and it made us notice some peculiarities exclusively typical of this line-up. First of all you can find in no other band a so great presence of female musicians! Then the two members are very often brother and sister or married each other. And in spite of the genre they play, you can easily find every age in their memebers, too! So, to know something more about the single bands, please go and read the blog “Why a Duo†where many groups let us knew their personal experience. Hoping to be helpful to all you guys out there, eager of musical news...
USA
THE WHITE STRIPES Surely the most famous of the cathegory. They are Jack White of Detroit, guitar and vocals, and his ex-wife (or sister?) Meg at the drums. Their playing is not merely technical and minimalism is a driving concept behind the band, but their bluesy songs are well-known all over the world and their style is appreciated even from “bigger†musicians. www.myspace.com/thewhitestripes
THE BLACK KEYS Dan Auerbach, guitarist and the drummer Patrick Carney. They live in Ohio, just a few hours from Detroit, and they play a raw electric blues, too, but simply different from the White Stripes. Very linked to blues traditions, their sound is consistently lowdown and earthy. They play together since 2002. www.myspace.com/theblackkeys
EARLS CLIFTON AND THE PIN-UPS This duo comes from Chesapeake, Virginia. In late 2004 Earls was playing his guitar in a 3-pieces band, with his wife Betty at the drums and another girl at the bass-guitar (so the “Pin-Upsâ€). After some attempts to maintain this line-up, they accepted as a fate they had to remain in two, and now they play as a Duo maintaining the same name. Their song are a blend of classic rock, garage and punk, anyway sane and pure rock! www.myspace.com/earlcliftonandthepinups
DEXTER ROMWEBER DUO (Ex Flat Duo Jets). Dex and Sara Romweber (guitar-vocals and drums), from North Carolina, play their mix of rockabilly, punk, surf and rock n’ roll. They toured all over the US and Europe, opening the concerts of many important bands, and had more than one personal satisfaction in the musical world. If you like the energy of sane rock n’ roll, you can’t miss this duo. www.myspace.com/dexterromweberduo
THE DINO HAAK COLLECTIVE we are in front of an original duo from Seattle, Washington. The drummer is Alex Westcoast (a very versatile one), while his partner, Dino Haak from Germany, plays a genial instrument: the Mobius Megatar. This is a very original bass (or bass+guitar?) for a total of 12 strings. This instrument gives a particular impact to the duo, opening great possibilities to new sounds. Their music is very tight and hooky, with heavy grooves, and often only instrumental. This duo love to collaborate, in some occasions, with many other artists, and for this reason they are called a "Collective". www.myspace.com/thedinohaakcollective
THE MAHONIES We have another standard electric duo, from Detoit, Michigam. We know only the nicknames of these players: they are Hot Dog Bun Mahoney at the guitar, accompanied at the drums by his friend Chili Mustard Onion Mahony. They play their rough punk since 2005. www.myspace.com/mahonies
TWO GALLANTS From their sites we find very few news: no names, or year of the beginning. We can only say they use an acoustic guitar, changed with a semi-acoustic one, sometimes, a drum kit and a harmonic. They play a folk-melodic-rock with a grunge vox, have many reviews in different magazines and come from San Francisco. www.myspace.com/twogallants www.twogallants.com
SCHWERVON From New York a nice couple with nice songs. In this two pieces band we find Matt Roth at the guitar and vocals while Nan Turner play drums, keys, and sings, too. They play a melodic indie-rock, songs that you immediately sing above, with a sophisticated and mature sound. Check them out at wwwmyspace.com/schwervon or www.schwervon.com.
THE VIBES are Donnie Young (guitar and vocals) and his wife Tara at the drum. They are a new entry on Myspace, since decembere 2007. We know that originally this band from Florence, Alabama, was wider but, as often happens, someone left and they reamined only in two. Because of their different influences, their music is a garage rock mixed with traditional folk, blues, country, swing and punk. We are all eager to listen to the result! www.myspace.com/transgressionfalls
BANTAM ROOSTER T.Jackson Potter (signature licks and vocals) and Nick Lloyd (Drums) come from a not specified place in USA. Together since 2004 they have a minimalist approach to garage-bluesy-rock. Their sound, at time, is all out brash, while in other tunes it becomes highly melodic and more lyrical; for this reason you’ve to listen more than a song to well understand their musical production. www.myspace.com/bantamroosterduet
THE VOODUO What a nice name for this duo from Long Beach, California! Eerie Powers (guitar and vocals) and her friend Neidi Night were originally a three-piece band, but now, from already 13 years, play their music in two. Neidi plays a minimalist drum kit, often standing, to accompany the duo’s songs which are a fun psychobilly/rockabilly garage rock. An interesting mix for an interesting result! www.myspace.com/thevooduo www.vooduo.com
TOY SOLDIERS Ron Gallo (guitar and vocals) and his friend Baurer (drums), from Swelladelphia, Pennsylvania, started to play their blues as a joke. When they realized their music was nice and that people attending their gigs appreciated their production, they decided they were an official band, even if only in two. As in many other situations, a two-piece band is rarely the first and fully aware choice for a band. www.myspace.com/ohnotoysoldiers
THE VIBES (2) it happens that more than a band share the same name, but there are so few two-piece bands that it seems incredible this can happen here, too! We know very little of these two guys coming from Texas: only that they are Colton at the guitar and Maddy at the drums, both singing and rocking in a great way! www.myspace/thevibeshavesoul
THE LIONS OF HAZELWOOD We are here at Hazelwood, Missouri, with Steven, playing guitar and singing, and his friend Daniel at the drums. They play a Southern rock with a strong blues vain. You can listen to them at www.myspace.com/thelionsofhazelwood
THE OCTOPUS Jemal (guitar and vocals) and his friend Mike (drums) come from Nashville, Tennessee. They play a personal grunge rock, with gretty voice and great strenght in their music: sometimes melodic, but often more powerful. Simply to listen to the result! www.myspace.com/theyellowoctopus
LEFT LANE CRUISER This is another two-piece of gritty, raw, dirty rock blues. Freddy J IV (Joe) is on guitar and hoarse, screamed vocals and is backed up by Bren at the drums, who plays harmonicas, mouth harps and backing vocals, too. The result is a particular music of really great energy. The characteristic of this electric duo from Fort Wayne, Indiana, is the incredible Joe’s voice: to listen to. www.myspace.com/leftlanecruiser
JESSE NOBODY They are two "dropouts" from Atlanta, Georgia: Jesse Nobody (vocals and guitar) and his buddy Sam Adams at the drums. The result is good, old fashioned punk rock’n roll, sometimes more pop, sometimes faster, by the way, all to listen to. www.myspace.com/jessenobody
THE FACTORY WORKERS This band comes from Kansas City, Missouri. Al sings and plays guitar while Justin is on the drums, both playing for the love of music and the intimacy of a two man band. TFW play rock blues tunes and their influences range from R.L.Burnside style of blues to Band of Gypsys and Buddy Miles beats so, if you love this musical genre, listen to them at www.myspace.com/thefactoryworker7
THE MIRACLE JERKERS Another two-piece band from Florence, Alabama. Sean Wayne (guitar and vocals) and Peter Jefferson (drums and mouth armonica) are a kind of side project of The Late Night Killers, where they both play in the company of another guy at the bass guitar. Their music is a kind of super fuzzed primitive garage, very rough and istintive, with loud vocals and senseless screaming, in a very rockn’roll style! www.myspace.com/themiraclejerkers
MELISSA’S ROCK DUO Melissa Reaves is a complete artist from Boone, North Carolina. She plays electric guitar with maestry and is a superlative singer. She plays both in the company of a band that in a rock duo, as a parallel project. Always experimenting with a different approach to music, Melissa continues to push the musical envelope. Melissa's avant-garde, fire driven' rock-n-roll approach is truly a unique experience. An incredible master of improv, she deconstructs the blues, pushes jazz to the outer limits and burns through rock-n-roll like the love child of Jerry Lee Lewis and the MC5. Melissa's Rock Duo Show is certainly no less unique. An experimental mixture of rock, blues and punk virtually defy classification. The Rock Duo's unbridled raw power and mastery of live performance are an unforgettable experience and not to be missed. www.myspace.com/melissareaves www.melissareaves.com
THE BODY Providence, Rhode Island, is a place where duo are welcome bands! In fact we have famous two-piece bands, as bass and drum Lightning Bolt, and other couple such as drums+effects, bass+drum machine (please see our blog “Bass and Drumsâ€), till this guitar and drums duo. The Body is the first two-piece band playing metal and dub we’ve ever met! They are Chip (guitar) and Lee (drums) and their music is obviously fast, loud and dark, with the guitar coming out from several amps. www.myspace.com/thebodyoncorleone
NO AGE They are D.Spunt and R.Randall from Los angeles, California. The two young guys are often in tour with their melodic tunes, powerpop sometimes, punker some other, difficult to describe but much hearthy and passionate. Let’s listen to them at www.myspace.com/nonoage
CANADA
THE PACK A.D. United in early 2006, Becky Black (guitar and vocals) and Maya Miller (drums) mix garage rock and blues for an interesting result, underlined by the raw, passionate and powerful voice of Becky. This all-girl duo comes from Vancouver, British Columbia, and their second album will be released in August 2008. www.myspace.com/thepackad www.thepackafterdeath.com
THE PAPERBOXES Another duo from British Columbia (Nanaimo). They are Raymond M.Tin at the guitar while the drummer Marcus A.M. Hastings sings as well. They play a garage rock, punker than their female fellow duo (The Pack AD) with which they had a tour on 2007. For your listening, please check out their links www.myspace.com/thepaperboxes www.thepaperboxes.com
UNITED KINGDOM
BLOOD RED SHOES They are the most recent famous duo coming from UK. Laura-Mary Carter (electric guitar and vocals) and his drummer Steven Ansell, some years ago started playing in a garage. Nowadays they constantly play their live shows all over the world. Gritty sounds for a very original modern punk. Don’t miss it! www.myspace.com/bloodredshoes
LE CHAT NOIR We are in front of a genuine electric duo, from Dartmoor. Teddy Hesper was a bass player ‘till 2006 when he met Los Angeles-born Eileen Spruce and formed with her this 2-piece band guitar+drums. From this point onwards the two dedicated all their lives to music, having hundreds of gigs all over Europe, and releasing 2 albums. They are so kind and humble guys but once on stage they both transform themselves: Eileen is an irresistable presence behind the drums (she pounds harder and faster than any other female drummer), thrashing out solid, powerful rhythms that act as the perfect foil for Hesper's guitar and vocal delivery. So, Le Chat Noir have become notorious for their full throttle live performances with their explosive garage punk rock!
www.myspace.com/chatnoirband; www.lechatnoir.org.uk
POP FOSTERS This is a real guitar and drums duo, from Wakefield; they are Richie Day and Sara Askew at the drums. The band was formed in July 2007 and they soon started with their gigs all over UK. They play a mix of punk and garage rock. Wellcome to them!
www.myspace.com/popfosters
CARA’S CRIMSON CHORDS There’s a new two-piece band, in Dartmoore: they are Cara White, at the guitar, and Andy Shaw at the drums; they both sing, but it’s Cara’s voice to be predominant, with her low and powerful tone. They play a punk rock, raw and intuitive, with melodic singing. www.myspace.com/carascrimsonchords
FAT GARRET These two young guys come from Driffield, a small town in Yorkshire. Bacon (Matthew Simpson) on guitar and Costy (James Costello) on drums and vocals, play together since early 2006, after some experience in other bands. They are a two piece playing raw punk ass blues/rock and their peculiarity is just the vocalist, who sings while playing drums, as you can see on their video on our space. www.myspace.com/fatgarretuk
THE TING TINGS This band comes from Salford, Northwest UK. Katie plays guitar and bass drum, sometimes, while Jules sits behind the drums; they both sing in their tunes. The characteristic of this two-piece band is that we are not in front of a merely minimalist band: they play full songs you can easily sing alongwith. Melody is predominant for a successful and energetic pop style. www.myspace.com/thetingtings www.thetingtings.com
PIFCO Pifco are Mary (drums and keyboards) and Stephen (guitars and vocals). This duo from Leeds, UK, produce infectiously energetic, fuzzily distorted, alternative post-punk rock. www. myspace. com/pifco1
SCRAPS Nick and Rob come from Blackpool, and adore to swap their instruments half way through sets. They are two young guys (17) and have been a band since they were about 13 or 14. Actually they play some thrash but minimalist music, moving themselves toward experimentation and noisy fun, obtaining what someone once deifined “a beautiful messâ€. www.myspace.com/scrapsscrapsscraps
THE OLD ROMANTIC KILLERS Another 2-piece band from Leeds, Yorkshire. Harry plays guitar in blues style and sings with a great voice, reminding us big names of classic rock, with a grunge venue, sometimes. His friend Greg accompanies at the drums their passionate tunes.
They are going to record their first album and we think it'll surely be a great success, so if you want to listen to them, here's their link: www.myspace.com/theoldromantickillerband
KING KOOL This blues/grunge duo comes from Darkest Fens. The guitarist and vocalist Dan Donovan met in 2005 the punk/metal drummer
Joe Mason and the 2 guys are still together nowadays. The result of the two way of playing is very interesting: a dirty,
grungey, bluesy rock you absolutely have to listen to. KK are at their second album just now and you can listen to them at www.myspace.com/king_kool
www.kingkool.co.uk
ITALY
TALKING SOUND They are Giusy (guitar and vocals) and Stefano(drums) from Trient. Married in life, they are also the creators and promotors of this page. After some experiences with other bands, unfortunately failed, they decided to play together at home, without depending on other musicians, even if they are always opened to external collaborations. They play a melodic rock, with raw guitars but easy-listening melodies coming directly from heart. They use a stronger sound in their guitar, with an effect more similar to a "common" band.
www.myspace.com/talkingsound
LOW TUNE DUO comes from Rome: they are Davide Lipari at the guitar and vocals and his friend Fabrizio Veltri at the drums. They play together since 2006 but they have a strong musical experience: Fabrizio played live more than once in UK, while the composer Davide had a long trip in USA where he jammed with famous bluesmen. In fact their music comes from the “darkestâ€, original Missisipi blues but, mixed with modern garage-rock from New York, flows in a very original and personal way of composing. www.myspace.com/lowtuneduo
THE JAINS Most of you serely remember Kris & Kris, the two young VJs from MTV Europe. Here we have Kristen Reichert from Canada, at the guitar and vocals. After playing guitar in some unsatisfactory bands, she has now her own 2-pieces band. Living in Milan for many years, sings and play guitar with her friend Anna di Pierno (drums) since 2001. Their rock is alternative and passionate, created with a very distinctive style: so essential, row and immediate. At the moment their second album is available. www.myspace.com/thejains www.thejains.it
F.IU.B. From Como there are these two guys: Gabriele Ferrari (vox and guitar) and Pierangelo Mecca at the drums. After a failed band experience they are in two since 2003 and from the next year onwards they plaied all over Italy with their tight, classic rock, bluesy sometimes, but always energetic. www.myspace.com/fiub www.fiub.it
AMAVO We are in front of two young ladies from Venice: Silvia Lovo at the guitar and vocals and her friend Anna Lotto at the drums. Originally they played in a three-pieces band, but from 2003 they are only in two. Their sound and songs are very original: so frenetics and voluntarily imprecise and out of tune. To listen to. www.myspace.com/amavo
LOMBROSO This duo is formed by Dario Ciffo, guitars, and Agostino Nascimbeni, drums; they both sing their songs, a pop-rock in Italian language. www.myspace.com/duolombroso
SADSIDEPROJECT We have another electric duo from Rome: they are Gianluca and Domenico, respectively guitar/vocals and drums/sinth. They consider themselves a side-project based on a primary guitar/drums duo which melts melodic, garage and alternative rock. For a very pleasant result.
www.myspace.com/sadsideproject
www.purevolume.com/sadsideproject
MOTORAMA Again from Rome, another female duo. Daniela (guitar and vox) and Laura (drums and back vox) play together (and at the beginning with another vocalist) since the far 2002. In this long period they had several live shows all over Europe and Usa, too. They play in a trashy and bratty way, their punk and rockgarage tunes. Their music is so frantic and energetic that you forget there isn’t a full band!
www.myspace.com/motoramaitaly
www.motorama.org
PSILOCYBE From Naple there are these two brothers: Giovanni, at the guitar and vocals, and Michele, who plays drums, percussions and sings, as well. They started as a 3-pieces band but they’ve been playing as a duo since 2006. Their music is a sperimantal rock all to listen to. www.myspace.com/psilocybe2
KELVIN This is an electric duo form Padova. We find Walter at the guitar and vocals, while his friend Anna plays the drums. They are together since 1999 and make a kind of music which is a miscellaneus among punk, hardcore and metal. www.myspace.com/kelvin667; www.kelvins.altervista.org
ALMANDINO QUITE DELUXE We are in front of a very original electric duo: the two want to create some mistery around their figure, that’s the reason they play with hooks on their head and like to call themselves SHE (guitar) and HE (drums). They both sing, but in a particular way, rush and screaming. Like their music, coming from the blues and evolving ‘till garage. Little to say but much to listen to!
www.myspace.com/almandinoquitedeluxe www.almandino.com
OVO Here we have another masked duo, from Milan, composed by Stefania Pedretti (guitar and vocals) and Bruno Dorella (drums). This is not only a guitar and drums duo, as Stefania adds other instruments to their performances, such as violin and harmonica, while the drummer gigs himself with the bass guitar, too. Their genre is sludge/noise but the result is absolutely original! Together in life, as well, they are always in tour, since 2001, when the band was formed. They had more than 500 gigs in 6 years, all over Europe and US as well. www.myspace.com/ovobarlamuerte
MESMERICO Here we have another duo from Naples. Fabrizio plays guitar while Luca plays drums and even Keyfx; both of them sing, but only in few tunes. The result is an alternative sound, hardcore sometimes while looking for new sonorities in many songs. Together since 2001, but in other bands, they play in two from 2005 when they formed the actual band, with a surely original way to interpretate the elctric duo. They had many lives and also interesting collaborations. www.myspace.com/mesmerico www.mesmerico.com
ZURICH AGAINST ZURICH They are two tennis players from Padova: Virginia Genta (guitar & voice) and David Vanzan (drums & electronics) . They play together since 2003, with their sound becoming louder and louder with the passing of time. The actual result is a wall of sound with radical noise and fragmented rhythms, for their powerful, intense and furious shows lasting at max 15 minutes. They are not present on myspace, but you can see something their material on www.againstzurich.altervista.org
GARAGE OLIMPO From The Capital (Rome) we are now in front of a very original 2-piece band, looking for sperimental sounds and use of the voice. This can be defined a postpunk production, enriched with great creativity. Garage Olimpo are Matteo (guitar and vocals) and his friend Damiano (drums and vocals), play together since July 2007 and sing in Italian language. www.myspace.com/garageolimpoband
JACKPINE They are Jack (guitar) and Pine (drums) from Siracusa, Sicily. Their music is not easily linked to a specific genre: we can simply say they play an instrumental music, addressed to sperimentation. For the result, please listen to their tunes at www.myspace.com/jackpineband or visit their site www.jackpineband.com
DARDO CHALET These two guys come from South Italy (Taranto and Salerno). They are Biagio Marino (guitar and sampler) and his friend Jacopo Fiore at the drums. As the duo above, there are no vocals in the band, being the two completely involved in creating sperimental and instrumental music. So these tunes are not thought as merely songs, but more as compositions: that’s the reason they last not less than five minutes. www.myspace.com/dardochalet
VERSAILLES These two guys come from Pesaro, and are Manu Magnini (guitar and vocals) and Damiano Simoncini (drums). This is a side project, as every one of the players are part of other bands, as well. They are together since early 2006 and play in two just for the pleasure of playing. They had several gigs in these years and many satisfactions, with their rough, fuzzy and powerful rock, all to listen to! Their lyrics are both in English and Italian. www.myspace.com/versaillesrock www.versailles.cjb.net
LE SCIMMIE This energic, rowdy and power duo is formed by two young guys from Vasto, Chieti: Angelo (Xunah) at the guitar and vocals (sometimes at the ukulele, as well) and his friend Mario at the drums. They play together only since 2007 but have already recorded a 4-tracks ep which is getting very good reviews. So, follow this minimalist and original band because they are surely going to gift us some more evolution and surprise! www.myspace.com/lescimmie
FRANCE
ROOM 204 A real guitar-drums duo from Nantes: they are Mric at the guitar and Pierre Antoine at the drums. Thay play together, since 2001, their original rock without vocals! www.myspace.com/room204 www.kythibong.org
J*99 They come from Bordeaux and play together since the end of 1998. They are Michel Coicaud, who sings and play harmonica, and his friend Eric Bernard, who plays guitar and adds rhythms with a drum-machine. So, this isn’t a typical electric duo but the result is very realistic and, above all, they play interesting music: to listen to! www.myspace.com/j99fr
JETTATORS Vitrac is the place where these two brothers come from. Thomas Station (guitar and vocals) and Pete at the drums, play their tunes since 2005. They declare their first influence is the traditional Delta Blues, but mixed with the noisy rock from Seattle. The result is interesting and that’s what they define “big mess and ultrasonic bluesâ€. All to listen to!
www.myspace.com/jettatorsbrothers www.jettators.ironie.org
THE MAGNETIX It’s a long time these two guys from Bordeaux play together (since 1998), and now have more than a record on their curriculum and tours all over Europe and USA, too. They play a mix of different genres (surf, rockn’roll, cleaning punk, garage rock), with abrasive guitar riffs (Looch Vibrato) punctuated by the powerful and minimalist drums from Aggie Sonora. www.myspace.com/themagnetix www.themagnetix.com
CHEVREUIL We know very little from this French two-piece band. They are Tony C. at the guitar, and his friend Juliene F. at the drums. They play a sperimental rock, all to listen to. www.myspace.com/chevreuil www.virb.com/chevreuil
BELGIUM
THE BLACK BOX REVELATION They are two young guys from Brussels: Jan Paternoster sings and plays guitar while his friend Dries Van Dijck accomapnies him at the drums. Jan and Dries offer a mix of dirty garage rock and melodic riffs with drums, guitar and voice as their only tools, as a real electric duo tradition. If you listen to them you are sure rock’n roll has never died. Amazing on live, too!
www.myspace.com/theblackboxrevelation; www.blackboxrevelation.com
LITTLE DEAD BIRDIE This band from Antwerp is formed by two young girls: Karo at the guitar and voice and her friend Liz hitting on the drums. They make an energetic, melodic rock with punk vocals, and you can listen to them at www.myspace.com/littledeadbirdie
GERMANY
PUSHART is a German rock duo made up of two old friends, consisting of Stefan Artmann (drums, vocals) and Andreas Puschmann (guitars, vocals). PushArt were formed in late Summer 2006 with the idea of making simple rock music and having a good time. Quickly they had a handful of own songs recorded on a MD Walkmann. Friends liked their songs and Puschmann & Artmann decided to tape a whole album. They recorded their selftitled debut "PushArt" in 5 days between June and August 2007. It..s a mixture of rock, blues & folk, always be rooted in the 60s. Very pleasant to listen to. www.myspace.com/pushart; www.pushart.de
THE TASTE Maria Pattusch (guitar and vocals) and his husband Nick (drums) come from Munich and play an indie pop-rock with melodic venue. At the moment they’re resting from a two-year tour which saw them even in UK with The Travis and for preparing their new album. www.myspace.com/tastethetaste www.thetaste.de
BLACKFACE ORCHESTRA Despite their name, this orchestra from Cologne consists of two “cheese white†dudes only (Tomas Klech – guit/harp/voc & Andreas Walenzyk - drums) and remains, what dirty blues-based rocknroll use to be in very old days. Gritty, fuzzed-out guitar - where traditional delta blues fingerpicking style meets ass shaking rocknroll licks and exploding drums, seems to be right recipe. Literaly speaking, there’s a lot of blood, sweat and tears in the “blackface styleâ€. www.myspace.com/blackfaceorchestra
ANAL MUSTARD They are two young girls from Niedersachsen. We know very little about them: neither their name or since when they’ve been playing together. In their space ther’s a single live song, from which we understand they play a rough, speed and noise punk-rock. If you want to listen to it, please visit their profile at www.myspace.com/theanalmustard
MEXICO
RED WIZARD A two piece band of death metal coming from Puerto Escondido, Oaxa, Messico. They are Gray and Max, making great gigs with their loud music! www.myspace.com/redwiz
AUSTRALIA
THE VIGNETTES From Sidney we have this two-pieces band: Joel the Jester plays guitar and sings, in couple with Queen Katie (K.T.) at the drums, who makes backing vox, too. They play in a garage-rock style, with massive riffs and powerful drums. The guitar is low tuned to A and Joel, through a splitter, runs it either to a guitar amp or a bass one, so to obtain both the sounds! So don’t miss their tunes, that you can listen to www.myspace.com/lesvignettes
THE FUMES Prepare yourselves because here in Australia there’s more than an interesting electric duo! One of them is surely The Fumes, a two-piece band coming from Sidney. Steve Merry (guitar and vocals) and Joel Battersby (drums) play an energetic and powerful rock-blues, really to listen to! They are together since 2004; in 2006 they released their first album and then had their tour around AU and Japan as well. Steve’s voice recalls us Eddie Veder’s one. www.myspace.com/gunsofgold www.thefumes.com.au
THE MESS HALL are a two-piece drums and guitar combo based in Sidney. They are Jed Kurzel (guitar/vocals) and his friend Cec Condon (drums/vocals) for a good and sane bluesy rock. The band exist since 2001 but the two play together from 2003. Released more than an album, then toured to Japan and Usa. Some grunge reminescenses, I’ve to say. www.myspace.com/themesshall www.themesshall.com.au
THE CHAPERONES from Sidney again, an electric duo composed by Matt Vince at the guitar and vocals, and Marissa Gillies hitting the drums. They play a garage pop rock, with indie venus for their melodies and lyrics. Nice songs you can easily remember and sing along. www.myspace.com/chaperones www.thechaperones.com.au
THE BLACKWATER FEVER really great stuff here: blues with garage venue and a marvellous gritty distorion of guitar. Shane Hick (vox and guitar) and Andrew Walter (drums), from Brisbane, are working on their debut album now, with Steve of The Fumes playing some guitar on it, too. www.myspace.com/theblackwaterfever www.theblackwaterfever.com
HAT FITZ AND ITCHY This is an example of raw, old Delta blues, amped up, with growling vocals (Hat Fitz) and thundering drums and washboard (Itchy). So this is an exception for our space, gathering electric guitar+drums, but this band well rapresents the original idea from which most modern 2-piece bands comes from. We are here in Queensland but we could be all over the world, with two players directly inspiring from old traditions. www.myspace.com/hatfitzanditchy www.hatfitz.net
MEANWELL COLLEGE from Adelaide we have two young guys playing a melodic rock, sometimes more pop, using electric guitar or piano (Ben Revi) and drums (Benn Hansen). Separed at the moment, but probably reuning in future. www.myspace.com/meanwellcollege www.meanwellcollege.com
DECADES It seems blues influences are often at the base of these Australian two-piece bands. These two young guys from New South Wales (Burry: guitar, vocals and blues harp, with Jimy at the drums) play, in fact, blues tunes, but with a garage vain and grunge voice, that modernize the genre. www.myspace.com/hellodecades
DIGGER & THE PUSSYCATS they’re two guys from Melbourne who’ve been playing thrashy rock’n’roll since forming at the start of 2003. Sam Agostino is the band’s guitarist while the standing drummer is Andy Moore, both vocalists. They recorded three albums till now, and had several tours all over Europe and Australia, as well. www.myspace.com/diggerthepussycats www.diggerandthepussycats.com

DIA SYNDICATE With this band from Tokio we start our voyage in the Nipponic land. They are Duke Kato (guitar and vocals) and Qeo (drum and vocals, too) for a garage rock production, mixed with some grunge, as they declare. There's also some disco pulse, at the base of their tunes, which makes just move while listening to them. At the moment (april 2008) they are playing at their first US tour. Don't miss to listen to them! www.myspace.com/diacutdia www.2nd.geocities.jp/dia_syndicate
AFRIRAMPO This two-piece band from Osaka is composed by two girls: Oni at the guitar and Pika at the drums. They play together since far 2002, and their genre is various: sometimes rock, some other noisy or psichedelic, anyway original and personal and all to listen to. They have recorded two full albums and made European, US and Japan tours for more than once. www.myspace.com/afrirampo www.afrirampo.com
KYOZIN YUENI DEKAI is another duo from Osaka. We don’t know the name of these two guys but we know the translation of their name band means something like “We are big because we are giantsâ€, and in fact their guitarist plays in stilts! Their music is noisy and sperimental, both in the sounds, in their concept of songs and in their way of singing. www.myspace.com/kyozinyuenidekai
1000’s CATS come from Tokio. They are Sonoko at the guitar and Dave at the drums, both singing. Their genre is melodic pop and easy listening. www.myspace.com/popnekogirl www.casiosis.com/1000sofcats
SYOKUBUTSU Rock with a punk venue for this duo coming from Japan and singing in their own language. www.myspace.com/syokobutuo www.shokubutsu.jp
