The Vibes

About Me

The Vibes is a product of Donnie Youngs little twisted brain. He played in a few other bands who really didn't explore his creative side. He decided to branch out and create The Vibes. He wanted a garage rock sound mixed with traditional folk,blues,country/swing and punk. Needing a drummer to bring all together he turned to his lovely wife who's drumming style is like no others he has ever played with. There music features no drum solos, because to quote Donnie "there is no need for it, we're not Van Halen or Lynrd Skynrd", lengthy fret tapping guitar solos and absolutely no bass guitar. I asked why no bass guitar? Donnie and Tara replied "Why would we want one?, more musicians mean more fragile egos to cater too!!" Donnie also went on to add that "I got my trusty old Boss Octave pedal to handle the low stuff". I asked if they were worried that they would be called a White Stripes rip off. Donnie and Tara smiled and said that with any music that is unique there are going to be comparisons, if people hate us that's fine we know that our music is not going to be for everyone. Tara went on to add that while the White Stripes is a big influence on The Vibe, they are not the main influence in their band. Tara grew up versed on country/bluegrass that she heard playing on her grandmothers radio when she would stay with them in the summer. Donnie had more of the rebellious side, he would dig through old dump bends at thrift stores to find unique records mostly punk rock. Donnie recalls the first time he ran across a rather odd little album. " I was in our local dig store and was looking through old records when I ran across one that just stuck out to me." Buried between Alba and Kenny Loggins was an album that was bright pink and had the Sex Pistols written on it". "I thought to myself WOW!!! This is really going to piss my parents off!!! He says while laughing hysterically!! That was my first introduction to the music that would go on and change Donnie's life for ever. As I finished my interview with the duo, they told me that they were rather excited to hear the reaction this band has gotten in the short time they have been together. How far will they go? Donnie and Tara can only speculate and be themselves they do know that no matter what happens they are excited about their upcoming L.P. and single "Disease". Donnie adds "the future is wide open!
