NIAGARA_Niagara is not simply a musical project.it's more like an audio sensory trip,a program which can be seen as a conceptual, evocative re-writing of the classic H.Hathaway's 1953 flick "Niagara",starring Joseph Cotten and Marilyn Monroe(here at the peak of her beauty and sensuality).
The story develops in a very suggestive landscape, the falls of Niagara, where George (Cotten),a very disturbed man,and his wife Rose (Monroe) are taking a vacation.
The relationship between the pair is getting worse and worse, partly due to the man's obsession for his beautiful young wife, who,in the meantime,is planning his death with the assistance of Patrick, the guy who she's having an affair with.George,of course, has good reason for his jealous rage.
So the girl's plan is:her lover will kill George and make it look like suicide,or hoping to frame it as an accident.Instead,George kills Patrick, and returns to kill his loving Rose.Unfortunately the man will pay tribute to life by drowning in the falls of Niagara.
And this is where our trip starts. From the last part of the film, exactly. With our George again at the falls' base, dealin' with the same doubts that had brought him there that very morning,in which the whole story begins.
And like if he was a ghost,he retraces the entire story again,in search of his beloved Rose, who's now dead and gone, forever, killed in the name of a stupid, useless revenge.
This is a journey into the mind of a paranoid figure and his own private hell,a mental state that pretty much encapsulates the mood of the compositions you'll hear in this recording.
Everything dies but also everything returns to the beginning. And if the smallest infinity is closely linked to the biggest infinity, like the passage of the matter through the non-exsistence becomes so sweet and natural, then dying could also be seen as a metamorphosis instead of something cruel and painful.SONGS ANALYSING :.HOW SMALL : George is at the falls' base, senseless and stunned by the noise of the waters. He's asking to himself why he's there at five o' clock in the morning; do the falls want to show him something?.ROSE : Rose is waiting for him in their room and she's calling him like a song of sirens that emerges from the noise. He's just forgetting why he's out there at 5am and so begins his way home, thinking about her lover, who's lying beautiful in bed, attending his return, " Like water come to me in the early sunshine,i'll return, where do you sleep Rose, you're mine"..PACMEN : On his way home George is run over by a series of gruesome images on the human nature:in the end he's just a parasite of the Earth, which is an organism too much bigger than him.In this chaotic delirium of visions he'd learn to love the logic in which the biggest eats the smallest..THE SIGN : George is totally obsessed by a melody that is banging around in his head.He quickly understands:it's the celebration tune of their love..BADROOM : Finally exhausted George falls asleep,Suddenly a blank space appears around him. Then a crescendo of shades, memories and images of his past starts filling up the envoironment. Then he sees his wife, again, and gets very angry at her.His anger boils over so that he decides to destroy the room,He feels like a child again and, with the intent to forget the state he's in,starts singin' stupid nonsense rhymes.. KISS : This destroying fury finds the man on the floor among many objects. In this mess he finds a small paper boat which he gently moves,up and down, thinking about an aquatic world where everything seems like a toys'world. And only him,in this brand new world he's imaging, has got the right to controls everyting.. LA MORTE : A shiver runs down his spine when he realises that this trip is getting closer to the truth behind his absurd fantasies. How could he do something as horrible as this?is this a nightmare or is he awake? why that terrible look on Rose's face? Now that he found her, he feels that the feeling that brought him over there isn't love but pure hate.In fact,he's just come to murder her.Or maybe not. He'll probably love her forever.. FUGA : George runs away, terrorized for what he,and only he,have done.He runs so much he doesn't know what he's escaping from.He just runs and runs, speaking incoherently, confusing the words (" pieces of fruit are skirtin' my face)".He's proud of his escape, though he feels miserable and pathetic. At least he's not the first.. INTERVALLO : The trip continues, and as he keeps on running he enters a new dimenson. The subconscious area. It's very difficult to cross it without crashin' against it.. THE RIVER : A last journey into the river to retrace the last instants of his life.He just needs some peace of mind now.He just can't stand this pressure anymore,Therefore the worse is passed. Everything seems slower and George is finally feeling fine.He knows what's goin'on .. BLOOM : George sees his dead body in the water. That doesn't seem to disturb him very much. Not anymore.
