I have been active in the Detroit music "scene" (whatever that is) for over 20yrs as a musician. Now, I've produced and mastered for people that I genuinely like. I'm not a "for hire" kind of guy, and only take on projects that I believe in. I produced The Mydols, Born to Iron CD last year and just finished production on The Displays CD, which should have been released by now. Oh, well. Next time I'll charge a lot of money for my time. I'm itching to build a Rat Rod.
Smart people who do stuff.
Come on Doll Face. Bore me.
Saw Robert Gordon on 1/12/07. Finally met him too. He was the reason I started singing back in 1979. I hope the hell I'm still doing it when I'm 60 years old. He's great.
If I have two hours to sit on my ass and stare, I'd be writing a song, fishing, or sitting in a deer blind talking to God about songwriting, fishing, and deer hunting. Movies really bore the crap out of me......well....that and playing cards.
TV blows. I hate TV. Grandpa was right. It's just an idiot box.
The only thing I've ever really got into was Charles Bukowski. It may seem cliche but people that really like him tend to have lived a little and know what I'm talking about. I took the time recently, to read several Hemmingway novels. Aside from the Michigan references, and the fact that I've been to many of those places, I would have to say that his short story collection is the best way to experience his work. A lot of his stuff gets tedious.
Any musician who records their own CD's, books their own tours, promote themselves, and succeed in drawing people to their vision, are all right with me. Cheers!
