Escaping reality...either by drinking or locking myself in the bathroom. Burning things. Staying in bed for days on end. Burning things. Taking day trips or long weekends. Preferably, on one of the big lakes in Northern Michigan. Alone in the solitude, connecting with nature, god and the spirit of the woods...then burning things. French Onion soup.
Libertarians, socialist, flame eaters, greasers, derby girls, burlesque dancers, belly dancers, drunken poet wannabees, drunken poets, drunks, bartenders, baristas, waitresses, comics, punks, folkies, flunkies, ghost hunters, mad geniuses, happy geniuses, Jesus freaks, atheist, queers, losers, wanderers, assorted circus folk, farmers, monks, hermits, musicians, painters, photographers, tiki gods (or idols), fat people, skinny people, bald people, people with hair, revolutionaries…Basically, I wouldn’t mind meeting people like the ones I already know....
Anything raw, primative and real. It varies from The Cramps (probably my fave) and The Ramones to Shane McGowan, Leonard Cohen and Neil Young and everything in between. Heavy into Surf-Spy-Western instramentalistism, Johnny Cash, Minneapolis in the 80s (Husker Du-Replacements etc.), crazy Phil Specter produced girl bands, Angelo Badlamenti (sp?), nasty blues from 20s-30s & 40s, Rocko/Psychobilly, some of the of the older (40s & 50s)jazz, same goes for hillbilly; good ethnic (Irish, Eastern European, Spanish/Mexican) ...some bad ethnic... ska... there's more WAIT! there's more!... WAIT!... WWAAAIIITTTT!!!!
70s New York cop films (the Seven-ups, Taking of Pelham 1-2-3), 1950s Orson Welles (The third Man, Touch of Evil...though, that might be early 60s) Stanley Kubrick (I think that I made it a point to have seen every one of his movies) B-Movie-Cult-'Sploitation....Bruce Campbell and the Ramie (sp?) boys, Cohen brothers, some of the newer french stuff: 'City of Lost Children', 'Triplets of Belleville'. Grew up on Python. I love Guy Ritchie's work, you know, pryor to his demonic wife SUCKING HIS MORTAL SOUL RIGHT OUT OF HIM!!!! Seriously! The guy was way cool until she got her icy talons around his throat! AND WHAT'S WITH HER FAKE BRITISH ACCENT!?!?!? She was raise in freakin' Detroit!
I've been getting into 'Ghost Hunters', but no real "I have to be home 'cause my story is on" series is grabbing me. I used to watch 'Behind the Music' but I don't even think that's on anymore. I usually get into something then lose interest. I try to catch the Daily Show; Venture Bros. is cool, but they change the time on it and now it's on way too late for me (freakin' Belgium bastards!!). History Channel...Sports...Frontline is still great. Rollergirls. And, of course....
Books?....what?....Oh yeah, books. At a young age I was hit squarely on the head with the 'beat generation' stuff and it took me a long time to get most of that out of my system (there's still a little left). Also, Vonnegut was/is a fave; Leon Uris, James Michener, a lot of spy stuff; American history. Mostly, though, these days it's biographies (are you still awake?). Oh yeah, and anything that has to do with people burning stuff.
Kerouac, The Cramps, The Roosevelts, Mary, Terry Gilliam, Pierre Trudeau, Groucho Marx, Churchill, Che Guevara...Johnny Cash, Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Shane MacGowan... Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, Marky, Tommy ...Len Puch, Slagle, Jerry Vile...Max&August... Kara-Taylor-Liam and a bunch of others...alive and dead!....Oh yeah, and Arthur Guinness!!!
