MIRIAM MÉNDEZ

MIRIAM MÉNDEZ pianist/composer, Bach por Flamenco

About Me

Miriam Méndez was born in Seville into a family with a long musical tradition. After beginning her music studies at the age of three, she produced her first compositions at the age of five. Her precocious talent led Miriam’s family to place her musical training in the hands of recognised professionals. As of the age of sixteen, she spent periods in various Belgian, Swiss and Italian cities, where her uncommon talent was cultivated by the likes of Frederic Gevers, Hans Graff, Dimitri Bashkiroff, Jan Ekier, Edith Fischer, and J Achucarro,M.Pollini among others. During the Holland Music Sessions, pianist Lazar Berman publicly expressed the enormous impression Miriam’s exceptional talent and personality had made on him, before inviting her to study under his guidance at the prestigious, Franco Scala-directed “Incontri col maestro” school in Imola (Italia).Since performing her first public concert at the age of twelve, Miriam has appeared in a great number of prestigious concert halls throughout Europe (Concertbouwg in the Netherlands, La Maestranza in Seville, El Liceo in Barcelona, Teatro de la Villa in Madrid), in addition to appearances at numerous international festivals and on a variety of Spanish and foreign monographic television programmes. She has also composed for television and several flamenco shows. Both her talent and the quality of her work have found the recognition of the prestigious producer Michael Haas, who has won numerous GRAMMYs and produced works by artists such as Plácido Domingo, Rostropovich, George Solti and Luciano Pavarotti. Haas was responsible for the production of Miriam’s first recording: “Bach por Flamenco".Miriam Méndez can only be described as exceptional. Her stage presence transmits both her creative fury and her poetic tenderness. Some have referred to her as the Spanish “Piazzolla”, whilst others have qualified her as Carmen Amaya at the piano. You may judge for yourself, although we are sure that under no circumstances will you be left indifferent.
