About Me

Rival Theory is a solo music project formed in August of 2005 by Maestro William. This project was formed as a way for William to conduct self-exploration. Sometimes malevolent and callous, sometimes supple and warm, the tones produced by Rival Theory parallel the experiences that can take place during one’s lifetime.
William began playing guitar during his mid-teens. He swiftly latched onto the music being created by the “grunge” and alternative scene being influenced by Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and The Smashing Pumpkins. At the same time he enjoyed the harsh sounds of industrial rock being created by Nine Inch Nails and Stabbing Westward. Toward the end of the 90s, William began experimenting with “hard disk recording” on a computer as opposed to analogue tape recording. Having the freedom of easily creating unlimited tracks and non-linear editing led to a push toward full experimentation.
Originally established with a raw experimental sound, Rival Theory has evolved to produce music typically heard and felt in the melon collie genre of Goth rock with an edge of Industrial and earlier Alternative music.
Rival Theory's much anticipated 8 song EP is planned for release in the year 2012.
