About Me

I am Hungarian violinist, born 1980 in Slovakia. I started playing violin at age seven, and went on to study classical music for ten years. In the third year of my musical education at Franz Liszt Art School in Sturovo, I was invited to play dance accompaniment for Kisbojtár children’s folk dance group. I fell in love with Hungarian folk music almost instantly. I played both classical and folk music for eight years. In 1998, I completed the "A" Level in Classic Violin Studies, with concentration on folk music. I furthered my interest in Hungarian folk music through private studies with Attila Halmos, the lead violinist of the Tükrös Hungarian folk music band in Hungary. All through this time, I was active with Kisbojtár dance accompaniment group. In 1999 the ensemble was invited to play ‘entertainer music’ for Hungarian folk dance balls, called “Dance House”. This was followed by dance accompaniment for a number of local folk dance groups and performances at festivals. My interest in world cultures, particularly Central-European culture, led me to start on a graduate course in Communications, at the University of Szeged, Hungary, in the year 2000. In 2004, I was invited to be the lead violinist of the musical entourage, for Szeged Folk Dance Group, and violin instructor for the recruitment dance accompaniment group. After graduation in 2005, I became deeply interested in Jazz music, thanks to my collection and etude of the entire Dave Brubeck discography.Since 2006, I live in United Kingdom, which helped me meet the right musicians to play jazz and folk music with. In 2007, I established ShORSh, exploring the roots of Hungarian folk music with South Indian percussion and jazz influences.www.myspace.com/shorshmusik
