Most of you will already know of my involvement as musician and studio engineer with Kate Bush . It has been, from an artistic point of view, an incredibly fruitful liaison for me. I feel privileged to have had a front row seat to watch a true artiste create so many musical masterpieces.
I have been a bass player by trade since 1967 when I got my first instrument. Over the years many bands and musical jobs presented themselves until the fateful meeting with Kate.
In early 1977 Brian (Bath) and I thought what’s the next band going to be, what are we going to do with this band to make it different. Brian said, we need to get a singer. Who do we know who sings, we don’t know anybody who sings. He said, well Paddy (Bush) has a sister who sings. I just assumed it was his older sister, so we went over to Paddy's to see if she’s would be up for it. she used to live upstairs from him. She came down and she just exploded into the room and into my life from that moment on.Brian said to her we’re going to get a band together, did she fancy coming along and singing. She said, yeah, great, I’m up for that, fantastic. So we arranged to have a rehearsal a week later. Paddy brought her down to a room at the public swimming baths in Greenwich South London. There was Kate, Brian, the drummer Vic King and me. The four of us sat there and we said right, what are we going to do and from the word go Kate said "I’d like to do something of mine" and right from that very first rehearsal we did James and the Cold Gun. That was the first thing of Kates we did. We did that. We rehearsed for a while and then we started to get a few gigs coming in. We got a residency in a pub in Lee Green (South East London) called the Rose of Lee and the first time we went down there, there were four or five people and within 2 weeks it was packed. There were people outside looking in, it was only a small pub, people were actually blocking the traffic in the street. We had a residency there for about three months, we played on a Thursday night. It was sensational and she was brilliant, she was into the whole thing of the gun, and gunning the audience down and they loved it. We had a light show going on and dry ice, the punters lapped it up. We did mostly covers, stuff that we knew. We did a great version of the Beatles Come Together, shame it never got recorded.
Since those days I have worked almost exclusively with Kate as musician and engineer.

I've been studio-bound recently working on some interesting things and also hard at it writing and recording new material for my next project which I hope to have done this year.... meantime, Due to the fantastic response I've had with the occasional Outtees and Alternatives I've decided to make some of them available for download.... I'll keep you all posted as to where and when... meantime, I'd like to thank you all for your continued support...
