THE ROMAN CANDLES

Fall of the Roman Empire

About Me

THE ROMAN CANDLES are the rock and roll arm of Matt Hopper, singer-songwriter, sometime rock 'n roll worshipper.

Because of his rampant solo touring schedules, it can be quite difficult for him to maintain a band, because those require being in ONE SPOT all the time, and Mr. Hopper is a sailor. For this reason, you should also check out his solo touring schedule , cause you never know where he might be.
The travels influence the songs, so do the beautiful people he meets. The demos up on the site currently were recorded in Madison, WI with Justin Kunesh, T.J. Pedriana, and Jeff Bail.
Matt Hopper will be joined by Russ Lemkin and Josh McCleod on drums and guitar respectively for fall touring on the west coast. They are looking for a bass player. Drop a line through the Myspace if you play the bass and are interested in the following things:
- Living out a suitcase and sleeping bag
- Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and the Rolling Stones
- Calling the road your home
- Laid back activities like floating rivers and camping
- Creating and following visions and dreams

Sounds Like: Rock 'n roll jittering between Westerberg's jangle, Reed's deadpan, Costello's quirk, Petty's cool, and Dylan's first electric guitar amp - put a modern twist on great hooks mired in the classic rock of the 60s and you're dialing in the swaggering indie rock of The Roman Candles.
