About Me

Detroit’s mixtape scene has always struggled to reach its full potential. But this years Detroit Hip-Hop Awards celebrated the birth of a new generation of Mixtape DJ’s. DJ Young Mase aka “Mr. Detroit City” was awarded the 2007 “Mixtape DJ Of The Year” trophy this summer. While only producing 3 mixtapes in 2005, Young Mase delivered over 40 different mixtapes in 2006. Mase has just taken one smaller step closer to becoming the next international Mixtape DJ.DJ Young Mase is most known for his hosting of local Detroit artist and the Detroit Takeover Mixtape Series. He has quickly become the cities premier Mixtape DJ. Mase is the Official DJ for Obie Trice! Royce Da 5 9, D12, Willie The Kid, Quest M.C.O.D.Y, D12, K-Deezy, Tone Tone, & Stretch Money have all worked with Mase on various projects. Mase is sometimes called the DJ Drama of Detroit. Mase is always working on developing the right way to present music for the national audience.Young Mase recently became the first DJ in Detroit to shoot a music video. “I’m Ready”, the 1st single for the Detroit Takeover 3 has reached over 20,000 views on myspace.com and youtube.com. It features an all-star cast of Detroit cameos, demonstrating that a Mixtape DJ can develop a fan base without being on the radio.Young Mase still wants to continue dominating the streets of Detroit and all cities that surround Metro-Detroit. Mase recently formed a group of Super-Producers called “The Heavyweights”. And is planning to launch his own independent radio show sometime before the end of 2007. “Heavyweight Radio” will start with a core Internet and College Radio audience. Young Mase is formally DJ Mase of hit radio station Channel 95.5 WKQI Detroit. Where he spent 7 years.
