About Me

THE BEAT MAGAZINEThe Beat Magazine: So How Are You This Evening Buscat? Good to see you looking flavorful.Buscat: Oh, I’m Good I Cant Complain. It can be a whole lot worst. Good to be seen! The Beat Magazine: So tell me a little bout yaself.Buscat: Well, I’m from GunRule, Mi. (Grand Rapids). I love music, sports, shooting pool. Im a cool dude, basically. But I grew up loving music. I really can’t do anything without music. It’s just in me. I mess around with dem keyboards a lil bit. As you know I Dee-Jay.The Beat Magazine: As far as music whom did you listen to growing up?Buscat: I listen to a lot of artist, especially growing up in my household. I listen to Switch, the Debarges, Ready For The World, Cameo, Frankie Beverly, Run DMC, Eric B. and Rakim, BDP, Big Daddy Kane, Whodini, LL Cool J, Shy-D, Geto Boyz, NWA, World Class Wreckin Crew, Too Short, Heavy D, EPMD. Just to name a few. I can go on and on.The Beat Magazine: Okay,Okay,You took me back with the Switch, They’re from, what yall call it GunRu?Buscat: FaSho!The Beat Magazine: Where did that name originate from? (GunRule)Buscat: Me personally, I have to say it was originated by La The Darkman. Back before he even dropped his first album Heist Of The Century. Then other people kind of adopted the name. You have mad cats trying to claim it, but I think La put it out there. The Beat Magazine: Aahight! Speaking of gun’s, It’s a lot of violence going on in your city would you say?Buscat: Yea, they clowning round here right now.The Beat Magazine: What would you say is the cause of all these killings in Grand Rapids? My Bad! GunRule! LOLBuscat: Actually, I think some of these wannabe hard cats don’t know how to fight out here! Real Talk! They scared of a good old fashion beat down. Isn’t anything worth taking a person life! Because you lose on both ends. You dun killed someone, now you have to spin the rest of your life in prison. So it’s a lose lose situation. Most of these cats be beefin over nonsense. It’s really hectic in G-Rap right now. Also, I think the economy is so messed up right now, folks are madd stressed. It really isn’t much for these young cats to do round here. Ya Heard! The Beat Magazine: I can dig it! Back to the music side of things. Who would you say influence you to start dee-jayin? I heard you spin, and you be doing your thang, and that’s real talk.Buscat: We’ll I was a fan of Jam Master Jay (R.I.P). I liked cats like Jazzy Jeff, Kid Capri, D-Nice. Cats like that influence me back in the days. What really motivated me to do my thang was listening to folk’s rock a party like Dj Mars, Dj Drama, Dj Jelly, Dj Frankski etc…The Beat Magazine: When did you first start Dee-Jaying? Buscat: I can say I’ve been dee-jaying all my life. I was always that person everybody called to see what was dropping, what was hot. What was worth buying. What was not worth purchasing. I was that lil shorty with my boombox listening to the radio waiting for them to play some exclusive hot joints so I can record it on tape. But, I first started spinninin in the mid-late nineties. Doing parties, receptions, and family reunions. I started spinning at the clubs around that time because the dj we had at our family own Nite Club which was called Miracles, then later rename Maxi’s started being late for work often because he lived out of town, and I had to fill in for him till he arrived. After so many times being hours late they just told me to keep rockin the club because the customers was feelin Dj Buscat, and my peeps knew that I had a madd music collection. Even when he arrived sometimes my fam will tell him we good because nine times out of ten I had the dance floor crunk. Not to toot my own horn or nothing, but I’m kinda of a big deal, real talk! LOLThe Beat Magazine: I always ask people this question. Who are your top 5 favorite Mc’s of all times?Buscat: Wow, I think I have a top twenty, but I will give you my top five. Jay-Z, Biggie, Tupac, Nas, Rakim. The Beat Magazine: That’s an elite group. I can’t disagree with you on those top five. What do you think about the music industry in this day and age?Buscat: We’ll, me personally I think its all about supply and demand. Like right now, the south is running the club scene. I just like good music. It doesn’t matter if you’re from the east, south, west, or midwest. If it sounds good I’m going to rock it.The Beat Magazine: So when you’re not dee-jaying, what is Buscat rockin in his ipod?Buscat: Basically, It depends on what type of mood I’m in. Right now I have my mans in nem on heavy rotation La The Darkman, and Willie The Kid. Also, T.I., Young Jeezy, Hov, Nasty Nas, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye, D.A., Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Loose Ends, Game, A.Z., Papoose, Busta Rhymes, Jae Millz, Juelz Santana, Marvin Sapp, Jody Breeze, Kellz, Webbie, Little Brother, Lil Wayne, Lil Kim, Fox Boogie, Lyfe, Mary J. Blige,Jamie Foxx, Three 6 Mafia, Isley Brothers, Jadakiss, Tony Toni Tone, etc… I can go on forever. I’m real versatile when it comes to my music selection. It all depends on the mood. That’s what it is!The Beat Magazine: Well, Dj Buscat, I really enjoyed choppin it up with you. You make sure you continue doing your thang, because like I said I had the pleasure of listening to you on the one’s and two’s and like you said earlier in the interview, your kinda of a big deal. LOL.Buscat: LOL… Thanks, that’s a good look!-HEATHER THOMAS
