When conversations turn to the hottest DJs in the industry, his name is sure to come up. Hear him spin at a set, listen to one of his mix tapes, and you will agree with Webster: DJ Sense has a keen ability to perceive what the people want musicallyand give it to them in a way that separates him from the masses. DJ Sensealong with his business partners DJ Drama and Don Cannon saw that DJs have a bigger role in hip-hop than just spinning and the three started the marketing savvy DJ unit, The Aphilliates. And the people are listening: unlike many othersdue to their supreme skills and marketing finesse, The Aphilliates are reaching a national and international audience. The hit-makers are listening, too: Sense has DJd and opened for superstars like Jay Z, Run- DMC, Puff Daddy, 112, Usher, 50 Cent, Biz Markie, Xzibit, and Ludacris.
DJ Sense knows that there is, indeed, an art to the scratch and it is not as simple as dropping a needle on a record. A native of Philadelphia, he began spinning in the 11th grade, making mix-tapes, and doing house parties. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from Clark Atlanta University. He has used this background, education, and natural skill to develop a distinct identity as a premier DJ and businessman in a city that is known as the mecca for hip-hop and R&B. Not only does DJ Sense spin for the Monday 5 oclock Traffic Jam on Hot 107.9, but he juggles his music schedule as the CEO of his brainchild, the Atlanta Entertainment Basketball League.
Currently Sense is the DJ for Bad Boy Recording artist MASE, DTPs own I-20, as well as the tour DJ for R&B Sensation Monica (Jive Records). In addition to catering to his devoted following in Atlanta, DJ Sense has displayed his skills up and down the East Coast from Florida to Michigan to New York to his home town of Philadelphia. Sense and the Aphilliates crew now have their own radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio called Aphilliates Radio Presents Generation Now; It started in September 2004. He has done his thing at clubs such as Visions (ATL), Cheetah (NYC), Fuel (ATL), and Zero 27 (Phila.) Also known as The Trendsetter, DJ Sense has a unique style that validates his tag-line and captivates crowds. With talent matched only by his passion, DJ Sense consistently proves why he is one of the industrys best on the ones and twos. In addition to working with artists like Carl Thomas, the Neptunes, and Jill Scott, DJ Sense has worked parties for Playboy, MTV, Trina, TLC, Vibe Magazine, Magic Johnson and Jermaine Dupri. Hes also been featured on BETs Rap City.
The Trendsetter is also a master at the mix-tape game. He has been given the stamp of approval from many of the major record labels and, as further proof of his ability to stay connected to both the core hip-hop audience and the music makers themselves, he often has a hip-hop superstar host his mix-tapes. With his most recent work---Streets Volume 6, a hot blend of the latest hip-hop hits hosted by rapper Rah Digga and Q-Deezy of WUSC Power 99 FM in Philly, and The Roc the Mic Tour, a mix-tape CD building on the theme of last summers hottest rap concert, featuring Jay-Z and 50-CentDJ Sense has set out to prove, once again, that Webster is right on target: DJ Sense is indeed perceptive, alert, and conscious of what it takes to keep his audience loyal.
Keeping a smooth flow between songs takes practice, intense concentration and intuition. Reading the crowd and shaping peoples minds through music takes mental alertness.
