"Mom and Pops really held me down like that. Long as I was doing what
I needed to do in school, I could have almost anything within reason.
They tried to indulge what I wanted, in a good way."
What Joe Politics wanted was to indulge his love of art and music. As
a child he displayed a proficiency in the arts. Painting, dancing, and
music were all part of his world. Hip Hop soon took root in him.
Graffiti, breaking and mcing soon come to the forefront of his self
expression. His love of painting led him to do his undergraduate work
at Boston’s prestigious Museum Of Fine Arts School. It was there that
he discovered by chance his next medium, film. "I was in school
minding my own business. I walked past this one class and saw bunch of
film cats working. I was hooked. Watching the leader of a
collaborative creative effort was part of what pulled me in. I went
and found out about signing up the same day."
Joe almost immediately started his video directing career; first for
friends on Boston’s Hip-Hop scene and then for himself. As a member of
Concrete Click, Joe (then Dag Most) got on the mic with the Boston
classic "Keep It Street" and helmed the crew for its video. Joe’s time
with Concrete Click did more than help him build his resume. Being in
a Hip Hop group on an independent label gave him his first taste of
the executive side of the entertainment biz. When major label dollars
aren’t there, someone has to do the work. Joe took an active role
behind the scenes at Concrete’s label, Lifeline. Making the contacts
and learning the business eventually secured Joe the role of Head of
A&R at Lifeline. His first signing was Dre & Stab, Dre Robinson’s
former group.
When Lifeline changed focused, Joe formed Pollymore Music Group. PMG
is a Boston based record label and management company with an eye
towards bringing innovative and creative entertainment to the public.
His experiences as an artist drove him to create a company that is
commercially viable as well as culturally significant.
By this time, known as Joe Politics because of his constant
networking, began to gain recognition for his distinct visual style as
a video director. Combining his business acumen (Politics owns several
businesses including a real estate holding company, film production
company and a barber shop) with his artistic sensibilities and love
for music was a natural fit. The challenge of birthing culturally
significant art in a commercially focused world is the driving factor
for Joe Politics. And Politics constantly rises to that challenge with
all his business ventures.
