Born in Lawrence MA, January 23rd 1982, Statik's love of music led to him to be an aspiring DJ at a young age, playing with 8-track and cassette decks, experimenting with pause mixtapes, all while studying the music of Gangstarr, Wu Tang Clan, Dr Dre, A Tribe Called Quest, Rakim, Nas, and KRS-One, to name a few. Moving to New Hampshire at the age of 10, Hip Hop immediately became his biggest interest. By Junior High School, Statik began djing School dances. A visit to New York Thanksgiving in 1995 led him to hearing Funkmaster Flex and Dj Premier Live on NYC's Hot 97, instantly falling in love with DJing. After returning home and learning to scratch on the his father's turntable, soon enough he had saved enough money for a pair or turntables and a mixer. A year later, Statik began doing radio at Phillips Exeter Academy's WPEA at the age of 14, where he also started DJing some of the Afro-Latino Society Parties. This expanded his musical taste into Reggae and Classic Soul. Through the years, his record collection, as well as skills began to grow. In 1998, at the age of 16, Statik expanded into rocking nightclubs and parties across the seacoast, including Hampton Beach's "Heaven", an under 21 club that later became the area's hottest teen spot. In 2000, while DJing his first party in New York City, Statik added the "Selektah" onto his name after hearing a local reggae artist say it unconsciously. At the age of 18, Statik made the move to attend classes at The New England Institute of Arts and Communications(where he graduated from August 2002 with a Degree in Audio Production) Quickly becoming one of Boston's "go-to" djs, along with Smash Squad partners Chubby Chub & Clinton Sparks, Statik rocked just about every club in the city, holding down residencies at Karma, Avalon, Axis, Bills Bar, The Officers Club, Aria, Exchange, Europa, and too many others to name. After serving as director of the New England Dj Association Record Pool and putting in work on numerous street promotion teams, ShowOff Marketing was formed in 2003 and has been Boston's premier field marketing firm/street team since. Past Clients include Reebok, G-Unit Records, Violator Management, Virgin Records, Capital, Universal, Diddy's Vote or Die campaign, and dozens of others. As Statik Selektah mixtapes continued to flood the streets, he also made appearances DJing on WERS 88.9fm and eventually became a mixshow DJ on WBOT Hot 97.7, before moving to New York City in 2004. In 2005 he became a weekly addition to Eminem’s Shade 45 Sirius Satellite Station on his Smash Squad partner Clinton Sparks Smashtime show. Statik launched Showoff Records began in 2006 with albums from Termanology & Granite State, and popular mixtapes with Nas, G-unit, Mobb Deep, and AZ to name a few. Currently residing in New York City, catch Statik 7 days a week on airwaves across the world. Statik also is very involved in the careers of Termanology & Reks, 2 MCs also from Lawrence MA, making noise around the world. Term’s Statik-A&Red debut will be in stores Summer 2008. Reks album Grey Hairs is scheduled for a May 2008 release, Look out for Statik Selektah's debut album on Showoff Records, SPELL MY NAME RIGHT: THE ALBUM IN STORES WORLD WIDE NOW, Featuring appearances from Talib Kweli, KRS-One, The Lox, Q-tip, Freeway, Cassidy, Slum Village, & More. www.STATIKSELEKTAH.com for more.
