Tamara Smith utilizes diverse industry experience to be a producer with a finger on the pulse of the cross-platform distribution revolution.
Showing a knack for storytelling at an early age, Tamara’s first love was writing. She won numerous awards and accolades for her short stories and plays, but it was when she came across an 8mm film camera at a garage sale that she knew her destiny was in film and television.
Relocating to Toronto, she was educated at York University, Trebas Institute and Centennial College in film and television production.
Tamara began working in the industry, on a freelance basis, in 1999. She also continued writing, working as a weekly columnist for a top-five searched entertainment web site and in public relations for a national industry trade association.
In 2000, Tamara launched Simply Magic Communications to utilize her professional experience to further the convergent media environment by providing broadcasters with innovative entertainment for cross-platform distribution.
She has acted as writer, director and producer on numerous projects for clients including: City Dance Corps, Jagermeister, Maxxium Canada and The Investment Funds Institute of Canada. Through her company Simply Magic, she has developed an exciting slate of television shows including: Enter the Vortex, 2012: Fact & Fiction, Smokey's House, Operation: Hip-Hop, In the House, Salsa in the City, SMOG TV and Money Inc.
As a producer, she has been a driving force in interactive video, conceptualizing and implementing various new media projects including: dance instruction DVDs with groundbreaking interactive features for Toronto’s #1 rated dance instruction studio and training DVDs used nationally for life insurance and bar/restaurant promotions training. She is an expert in innovative video technology and delivery systems.
Her comprehensive combination of practical experience in film, television and new media production continue to cause Simply Magic to be in high demand by broadcasters and corporate clients alike.
