Forced prostitution, bonded labor, child sex trafficking, slavery, illegal detainment, false imprisonment, corrupt governmental structures, child soldiers and starvation are just some of the injustices that seek to overtake our world.
Governmental and nongovernmental organizations, churches, mission societies, groups and individuals all work to open the eyes of society to see these injustices. They may act to change visions of pain to visions of hope. Chosen blindness must not be an option.
Seeing is painful at first. Our eyes strain to adjust to the sharpness of the light and to make sense of the forms that surround us. With vision comes the responsibility to act.
There is no action, no outreach, towards positive and saving change that is insignificant. But to broaden the impact of our outreach, we must link arms. The realization of this was the catalyst for the creation of JESUSpolitik.
WHAT IS JESUSPOLITIK?
JESUSpolitik is activism simplified.
We work with human rights organizations and mission groups to provide them a connect with student groups, churches, civic groups, and concerned individuals- people that want to get involved but don't know how. It can be overwhelming when you want to actually do something beyond just buying a gum-rubber bracelet and donating five bucks. We thought activism and living out your faith should just be made easier.
"Raising awareness" often becomes more of a shock and awe experience than an inspiration for action. You can wear yourself out trying to do all the research and preparing all the presentations yourself. And, by that point, you still haven't actually done anything besides horrify your fellow students! You can't fill people's spirits with images of attacks against human dignity and then not give them an opportunity to act against those attacks! You owe it to them to give them an opportunity to act.
Let us help.
JESUSpolitik researches "the issues" for you - what they are and the history behind them. We make and develop all the presentation materials (posters, PowerPoints, pamphlets, t-shirts, you name it...) you'll need to get people informed and get people moving.
All you have to do is act.
We have activism and fundraising ideas that actually work (ex- step by step instructions on how to put on a benefit concert). They're listed the site! You can give us feedback on how they worked out and add your own ideas too!
We also promote the needs of people project by project. We list the needs, you act to fulfill them by either using our ideas or your own. Short term and long term mission trips are also available for some projects. To get involved in our newest project, check out www.JESUSpolitik.com
We get you started and we help you every step of the way. By linking arms, we have a broader outreach and a more efficient one.
WHO DOES JESUSPOLITIK HELP?
We work out of our network of mission groups and human rights organizations and take on a project where people have the most need and the least amount of resources. We continue that project until it comes to a point of sustainability, then we spotlight another project where people need help.
Previous projects remain in the JESUSpolitik network and opportunities to get involved with helping them will also remain available. After all, we're a family.
We are currently working on the Maputo Project . Check out how you can get involved at www.JESUSpolitik.com
Help with our current project working with street kids in Maputo, Mozambique!
THE MAPUTO PROJECT
JESUSpolitik is working with local missionaries in Mozambique to provide direct aide to Maputo's poor, oppressed, hungry, homeless, sick, abandoned and otherwise forgotten.
In African hospitals, food is not provided. It can be difficult to make food arrangements if you are already poor to begin with or if you are alone. They visit the sick in the hospitals and bring them food. They pray with them. We give them hope.
The streets are lined with children in Maputo. There are so many that are homeless. This leaves children vulnerable to sexual molestation, prostitution, bonded labor, drug trafficking, starvation, AIDS and more horrors than you can imagine. Life is hard on the streets.
We've been sent by God to protect these children. The Maputo Project works to provide food, clothing, water, blankets and a safe place to sleep. It helps girls that are victims of prostitution learn new vocational skills, like sewing. The toys they make are often given to other street kids as a way that they can give back to this ministry. The girls are introduced to Jesus Christ. Souls are getting saved.
We need your help to make this mission permanent. We want to build a permanent safe house that is locally staffed and locally sustainable where street kids can stay, gain vocational skills and start a new life in Jesus.
Two local Mozambicans, Mugara and Raquel, and JESUSpolitik representative, Dave, spearhead this effort together. Just three people making a huge difference.
Poverty plagues the streets and a growing number of street kids are homeless and being coerced into prostitution, bonded labor and drug trafficking as means of survival. Mozambique is a young country and there's not much left since it was ravaged by the independence war of the 1960s and 1970s, by recent natural disasters and by the effects of extreme poverty and AIDS.
But there is enough to build on.
Lives are changing. People are getting saved. Street kids are given a safe place to sleep with their bellies full of food and clean clothes on their backs. The sick are being cared for, the lonely are being visited and the lost are getting saved.
