About Me

LIDIA BORDA whom the “Rolling Stone Magazine” described as “the best tango singer of the present” was born in Buenos Aires in 1966. She studied Fine Arts, Theater and singing since she was a teen-ager. In 1995, after she performed other musical genres, popular and classical as well, she started singing exclusively tango. From that moment on, she became one of the most important interpreters of the genre playing at many festivals around the world: ."Grec", Spain; "Festival de Otoño", Portugal; "Citè de la musique", "Chaillot", en France; "Extremos do Mundo", Portugal; "Roma-Europa", Italy; "Lenguaje e Identidad", Instituto Goethe de Munich, Germany; "Filarmónicos en Fiebre de Tango", Dresden, Germany; "Bergen Festival" at Noruega; "Festival Internacional de Danza y Teatro", Perú; and "Festival Internacional de Tango" Buenos Aires, and usually in Germany with her brother "Luis Borda Cuarteto" too. In 2002 she performs in representation of all Latin America during the opening ceremony of the Library of Alexandria in Egypt. In 2005 she was awarded the Konex prize “Merit Diploma” in the category Female Tango Singer. She is regarded as the best female voice in the last decades, and she has been widely acclaimed. Lidia Borda has been inspired by the pioneer interpreters of tango but at the same time she is a modern and original interpreter with a classic and unconventional repertoire. Part of this material has been registered in her record “Entre Sueños”, "Patio de Tango" and "Tal vez será su voz"

Sounds Like: Argentinean TANGO.

Lidia is a “rare bird” that cannot be pigeonholed with the standards in vogue after the 60s, located in a place near the great female tango singers of previous times.
Her repertory rescues beautiful pages of the genre, inexplicably forgotten.

The MUSIC

For the film “12 Tangos”, the composer and guitarist Luis Borda assembled an orchestra consisting of some of the best Argentinian musicians. 16 tangos were exclusively arranged and recorded.
Maria de la Fuente is 92, the first singer who brought the tango to Japan and sings together with Lidia Borda. Other songs are performed by Gabriel Menendez, Jorge Sobral and Eduardo Borda. The Film shows also the last pictures of the legendary bandoneonist José Libertella who died shortly after the end of filming. The orchestra for “12 tangos” deliberately brings together several generations, and the repertoire of this spectacular all-star orchestra includes popular tango classics such as “Adios Nonino”, “Sur”, “La Cachila”, “La Puñalada” and the “Milonga de mis amores”, but also lesser-known gems such as “Pampero”, “En carne propia” and the wonderful waltz “El Paisaje”, as well as new compositions such as “Ironía del Salón” and “Corralito”.The film narrates the stories of these dancers and their ancestors in 12 tangos, including feelings of failed hope, crisis, imm- and emigration. The past, the present and the future of our protagonists also reflect the history of the tango itself, and give an accurate portrait of present-day Buenos Aires. the soundtrack : http://www.jazzrecords.com/enja/9167.htm
