Prominent Sons, hailing from Long Beach, CA , represent conscious, thought provoking Hip Hop...“music with a messageâ€. The group’s sound has been described as meeting of the 60’s peace movement with the political activists of today; a cross between Common, Talib Kweli, and Public Enemy, with vivid song writing, intricate word play and passionate delivery serving as the cornerstones of this dynamic four man team.
Prominent Sons just released their 2nd full length album, “Dawn Till Duskâ€, a project that is steadily gaining them both critical acclaim and an ever-increasing fan base. As independent artists, the group is currently working to promote the new album by: opening for various national acts, seeking exposure via college and internet radio, performing at charity events such as Kidstock 08’, and is utilizing street teams across the country to help spread the word. “People out there want music that speaks to real issues, and these guys definitely bring it!†– club owner Mark DiPiazza speaking on the success of the PS record release party held at Lava Lounge in July of 2007.
Although still a relatively new act on the Hip Hop music scene, the Prominent Sons were formed in 2000, and have been performing and recording music for over 6 years now. During that time, PS has refined the sound that is truly their own, balancing deep social and political commentary with more widely accepted ‘fun’ music to take the edge off. The Prominent Sons have most notably won the Orange County Music Award (OCMA) for Best Hip Hop in 2005, and recently received a nomination for Best Urban at the 2007 OCMAs. With three albums under their collective belts, a live show that is guaranteed to move the crowd, and songs that will make the listener bob their head and use their brain at the same time; PS is a breath of fresh air in an otherwise saturated and redundant industry. As the saying goes, the proof is in the pudding, and this group is anxiously awaiting a taste test by the masses.
Since their debut, the Prominent Sons have and will continue to press forward with their unique brand of hard hitting music. They’ve created a growing fan base along the way, with much more to come in the very near future. Currently, PS is in the process of independently releasing its 3rd installment, a project that will prove to establish the group as a dominant force in the realm of hip-hop culture.
