Butcher & the Melancholy

We’re a little bit Country and a little bit Pirate

About Me

"The Melancholy", which was taken from the description on one of four personality types (sanguine, phegmatic, choleric and melancholy). This personality type is the introverted, inward thinker that analyzes nearly everything and would often be poets or scientists.

“I'm so stoked to have Joshua Butcher finally play for me. I've been waiting for like 2 years to find the perfect show. I couldn't. So finally it's like 'F it. He's got to play for me before I go crazy’”

“Whenever Gaza Strip is out in the desert disposing of bodies, they leave the ignition in the car on, so they can bump Josh Butcher!!!”

“’Joshua Butcher and the Melancholy’ is the next big thing coming out of Tucson. Not from Concentrate - all natural. Their sound will stop you in your tracks and make you realize just what good music should sound like”
Katie of

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: joshuabutcher.com
Band Members:
Joshua Butcher (Vocals and Acoustic guitar)

Robin Messing (Backup Vocals)

Scott Knight (Electric Guitar)

Peter Schnittman (Bass)

Animal (Drummer)

Influences: I have a pretty wide base when it comes to influence of music:
My favorite music is kinda folkish..country that showcases a vocal that is really soulful and passionate, like Patty Griffin, Joe Purdy, Ryan Adams, Neko Case, Caitlin Cary & Thad Cockrell and of couse Gillian Welch & David Rawlings.

I love it when there is some bluegrass feel put in music but not so much as to change the genre to bluegrass - like Alison Kraus & Union Station and NickelCreek.

I also LOVE strong acoustic goodness like: Jason Mraz, Damian Rice, Shawn Colvin and Jewel.

Other influences that must be mentiones are: Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan, Dixie chicks, Patty Griffin(she need to be mentioned twice), Wilco, Peter Gabriel, Tragically Hip, Del Amitri, The Eagles,Tracy Chapman, 80s country music and a bunch more.

I am the type of person that lives and breathes music and when I forget an infuence (and I know I will) - it makes me feel bad. If you are reading this and are one of my influences but not listed - I am really sorry
