Desolate Ways

About Me

Desolate Ways' story began in 1998, in a South-Brazilian city called Torres, when four childhood friends decided to make up a band to blend heavy metal and the gothic rock from the 80's. Two years later, after building up its own style, the band had its first and only demo tape released. This self-titled work, including four tracks, was responsible for the first band’s contract signed with the Brazilian label Avernus Records.
The first album, called Eternal Dreams, set the band among the most significant Brazilian bands on the style. Acclaimed by the specialized media, the work of Desolate Ways had achieved a singular sonority, using gothic nuances without losing sight of its real purpose: to be a heavy metal band. Such approach could be labeled as introspective metal.
In the year of 2004, facing some internal problems, the band lost Igo Menegaz (drums) and Rodrigo Fernandes (bass). Later in the same year, those names were replaced by the brothers Ricardo (drums) and Rafael Giordano (bass), but because of musical and personal differences Rafael was dismissed and Fernandes was called back to his original place in the set.
The second album, Tearful, was released in February 2007. In this brand new work the band bet on more melancholic songs, but still keeping the old style. "Sacred Mortals" opens the setlist in a heavy and contagious way, falling down the abysm of "Cry no More", with an inspired solo by Elizeu Hainzenreder. Then comes "Cold Embrace" and the single "Drowned in Tears". There is a whole lot of sadness in "Forgive Me", which counter-weighs the deafening riffs of "Alone" and "Falling Down". "Echoes" reminds us the essence of Desolate Ways. Next comes the lament of "I Try to Forget" and "My Pain". The album closes up with the beauty of "Tearful", a great job by Max Lima on the acoustic guitar. Once and again, the band relies on the artwork of Andeson L.A. and the production of Adriano Sperandir, at Stúdio Arroba.
In June 2007, the drummer Igo Menegaz got back to the band. The miserable doomsters are back!
