Hi! Thanks for stopping by.
My main instrument is the piano but I also play various keyboards (synths, organ, electric pianos) and accordion in my professional life. I was born in Lisbon, the city where I began my studies and started to play for a living. I studied piano and harmony at the “Instituto Gregoriano de Lisboa†and at the “Academia de Amadores de Músicaâ€, and studied jazz at the Hot Clube’s Jazz School. Recently I graduated in the Jazz Course of ESMAE in Porto. During those years I got the chance to attend to workshops and masterclasses with great jazz names like Roland Hanna, Rufus Reid, Kenny Burrel, Bobby Watson, Clark Terry, Phil Markowitz, Ed Neumeister, David Liebman, and more recently with Aaron Goldberg, Mark Turner and Maria Schneider.
Almost at the same time that I was beginning to take my studies more seriously (when I was 17 or 18 years old), I started to play professionally in rock and pop bands in clubs allover the country. Since then I’ve done a bit of everything: played in TV shows; composed and produced the soundtrack for short movies and TV commercials; written and produced music for stage plays; arranged music for string orchestra and Big-Band; produced records; recorded in studio sessions; traveled with rock and pop portuguese artists; played in jazz groups; played in rock bands; taught piano and music theory…
Nowadays I’m teaching jazz piano and harmony at the “Academiaâ€, playing piano and keyboards in a few different projects and working with my own jazz quartet. This brand new quartet was brought together to play in my graduation recital at the ESMAE. Three great friends and wonderful musicians joined me for this recital. During the rehearsals we decided to write more tunes, to come out and do a CD and to play live with the project. Since the recital last year, we have been doing some live shows and we recorded the CD, although we are still looking for a record company to release it. You can listen here to three tunes from the CD, one of them with our special guest João Moreira playing flugelhorn.
The fourth tune presented here is the main theme for a short movie called “Trilogia do Desencontroâ€. I decided to put it here because I like it particularly. I’m looking forward to get the chance to compose to another movie. In the meanwhile I’m studying more about the subject and improving my skills as a composer. Knowledge is never too much…
