Lucia Martinez (1982 Vigo-Spain) is a young musician, with experience and a really strong background in world, classical and jazz music. A versatile multi-instrumentalist (vibraphone, drums, percussion) and composer. LucÃa belongs to the new young generation of jazz musicians in Europe, but with the flavour from the south. Her style is influenced for the folk music from Galicia (North Spain), flamenco and all the music from Mediterranean, mixing it with the new avant-garde music.Four years ago she founded her own Quartet as a leader, where she plays drums, percussion and also writes the compositions, with members of the new jazz generation of musicians coming from the south Europe: João Pedro Brandão on flute and alto sax; Pedro Neves on piano and melodica and Carl Minnemann on doublebass.“Lucia MartÃnez Quartet†appeard on several jazz festivals such as Jazz Festival ImaxinaSons (Spain), Jazz Festival in Vila Real (Portugal), Iberojazz (Spain), Jazz no rio (Portugal), Músicas no palácio (Portugal) to just name a few. And also in concerts like “Congress film 2006 in Vigoâ€(Spain), in Bflat of Matosinhos (Portugal) Hot5 Porto (Portugal), Manteca jazz Vigo (Spain), Contrabass Jazz Club (Spain), Show Hall 2007 (Santander-Spain), Onda Jazz and Maxime (Lisabon-Portugal). They played also live fo TVG (television from Galicia-Spain) on the 24 of July 2007.They just recorded her first album “Lucia Martinez Quartet: Soños e deliriosâ€, whith the additional contributions of Perico Sambeat on alto saxophone, Maria João, vocals, Jose Alberto Gomes on electronics, and Juantxin and Toto on clapping. The CD is produced by Baldo MartÃnez.
This is a new and original project, led by a young woman, drummer, percussionist and composer, who introduced a proposal solid and interesting, ready to grow and consolidated over time.
