DJ Starr NÃcole (nee-cole) is an all around quadruple threat. Radio
Personality, DJ, and Artist Manager/Promoter. Born and raised on the
South Side of Chicago, She started her DJing career at the age of 16.
"Nobody knew that I wanted to be a Radio DJ I kept it a secret. My
family thought I would be a singer because my mom and dad were
singers. I didn't want to do that, I wanted to be behind the mic
introducing the records instead of singing them."
After graduating from high school, Starr NÃcole attended Broadcasting
school majoring in Radio Broadcasting turning down acceptance at
Columbia College Chicago, "I knew I didn't want to sit behind a desk
reading books for four years, I needed to go to Broadcasting School."
Holding down a Saturday & Tuesday afternoon slot on the schools radio
station 107.3 WICB, she practiced her on-air talent, being nicknamed
"Chicago's First Lady" by her fans. "I was popular and I did't even
know it." While attending school she interned at Chicago's radio
station B96 with DJ's Stylz & Roman at B96's Six Flags Summer Studio.
"Styles and Roman helped me really want to get into radio." Still
working hard at her craft she perfected her demo and sent it out to
various radio stations.
Radio wasn't the only thing Starr NÃcole wanted to pursue. After class
she would go to her mentor's house to practice on his set of
turntables. "I finally let it be known that I wanted to be a mixing
DJ. A classmate of mine contacted a friend of a friend by the name of
DJ Dimepiece. He told her about me, I hit her up and she told me I
should put together a mixtape to get my name out to the public." Starr
NÃcole took Dimepiece's advice and ran with it. She went to work on
her very first mixtape.
Mixing old and new school helped Starr NÃcole understand the history
of music new and old, hip hop and r&b. Being a fan of old & new school
helped her mix songs in her own unique way. "I'm on my girlie grind
right now. Along with that, I'm aiming to be the first known Chicago
female spin tress."
When asked who she looks up to in the DJ game female wise Starr NÃcole
notes Sundance, DJ Jazzy Joyce, DJ Dimepiece and DJ K-Sly. "All of the
DJs that I look up to are very talented. Seeing how successful they
are, makes me want to work even harder to get to where they are in
their careers." In 2007 DJ Starr NÃcole became an Official member of
the Future Star DJs and in 2008 she became an Official Slip N Slide DJ
& Fleet DJ. 2008 is destined to be Starr NÃcole's year. "I want people
to go, oh, that's DJ Starr NÃcole huh? She's hot!"
