The original guitarist, singer and main songwriter in The Legendary Stranglers enjoyed massive UK and European success with ten hit albums and twenty-one top forty singles in the 17-year period that he was in the band. Hugh's book The Stranglers: Song By Song was published in November 2001 and gained massive media coverage. In the book he sets the record straight, displaces the myths and explains for the first time the real stories behind the Stranglers extensive catalogue of songs.SUBSTANZ MUNCHEN 11/11/06 DIRTYDOZEN TOUR

Heroes:

Jean Jacques Burnel delivers a brutal, distorted and aggressive bass line. It gave (and still gives) The Stranglers a distinctive, raw, furious sound. A great example of JJ’s distinguishing thud, is the opening bass riff in the Strangler’s cover of 'Walk on by', an angry young man’s anthem. JJ is a black belt in karate and wanted to study the marital art in greater depth. However Hugh Cornwell, founder of The Stranglers, stepped in and persuaded JJ to join his band. You can hear JJ’s karate chopping those bass strings. Remember kids do not mess with JJ.Johnny Ramone was known for his fast, high-energy playing style that consisted of rapid downstrokes played mostly over highly distorted power chords, often in a simple I-IV-V progression. Often called "Buzzsaw", this technique was highly influential on first- and second-wave Punk and alternative rock bands, as well as myriad genres of Heavy Metal, especially Thrash metal.Greg Graffin is the vocalist and co-founder of the punk rock band Bad Religion, as well as a life sciences professor at UCLA.Bad Religion is known for its articulate and often politically charged lyrics as well as its fast-paced harmony, melody and counterpoint.Graffin attended El Camino Real High School, then double majored in anthropology and geology as an undergraduate at the University of California, Los Angeles.
