About Me

Buy Shon's CD ($10) featuring 9 original tunes. So, glad you’ve taken the time to come by and listen’. The CD I’m featuring on my page was a true project of the heart. There’s not just one particular style of music because I put this CD together to feature some different genres of music that I grew up on and love in a style & tone that uses soul-music as the common denominator.. I was fortunate enough to have true artistic leeway on this entire project. I wrote, produced, sang (lead as well as most of the backing vocals) & played guitar on all the tracks. The featured instruments on every track were done by fantastic friends & musicians I’ve had the honor of working with over the years. Although, “Rainey Day’, ‘Chase your dreams’ & ‘As I Am’ are all mellow acoustic songs broken down to their simplest forms, they are from slightly different musical backgrounds. ‘Are you in Love’ has a reggae feel to it., ‘Funk yo ’self is a song I wrote in that old school funk and soul vein as a spin on just makin’ yourself happy in life, ‘Pocket linens’ has a very Latin thang going on & ‘Outside Lookin’ In’. was written with a little bit of that Oak-town funk in mind. Finally, ‘Satisfied’ was my first attempt at a gospel song. With a message that holds so true to my life. So many times we wish for that greener grass and forget all the amazing blessings that we already have.
I was born in Kansas & raised in Idaho in a family of truly beautiful artists & musicians. I’m one of those fortunate souls that had access to every type of music from a young age. We had everything in the house, classical, folk, jazz ,blues, but it was soul music I fell in love with. I started playing guitar and singing with my father (an amazing musician) at age 3.. I attended Boise State University and had the opportunity to pursue a love of Jazz. A pursuit I’ve continued until this day. I’ve been settled in Boise, Idaho for quite some time & have had the privilege of playing music in a couple different bands with incredible musicians who taught me so much. I’m currently playing with The Soulcats, a New Orleans, Funk & Soul band I co-founded with my good friend and the bands drummer Greg Belzeski. There is a link to the bands website if you care to take a listen. Finally, I'm also currently teaching guitar & vocal lessons at the Rivendall Academy of Music in Eagle, Idaho. Working with kids and seeing them fall in love with music... very cool.
Although I love music and consider myself a musician through and through, at the end of the day friends.:)... I’m a husband and a father. Does it get any better than that?. If you get a glimpse of my slide-show you will start to have an idea of why I just can’t get enough of my beautiful family.
